Coordinator Media and Public Relations, Clerk Grade 7/8

The NSW SES is increasing the size of its media and communications team and is recruiting for an experienced media and communications professional to lead a team of media officers. You will be responsible for managing media officers in delivering safety awareness campaigns and messaging, responding to media enquiries, managing and supporting the adoption and use of social media platforms and applications, and providing media support. The role will also be required to support the service during operational events to deliver important safety messages across a range of channels. The role may include weekend work and night shifts on a rostered basis.

NSW State Emergency Service (NSW SES) is an emergency and rescue service made up almost entirely of volunteers and supported by a small staff contingent. NSW SES is a key influencer of other emergency service agencies and works closely with these partners to modernise and grow volunteering to save lives and protect communities.
While major responsibilities are for flood, storm operations and tsunamis, the NSW SES also provides the majority of general rescue effort in the rural parts of the state. This includes road accident rescue, vertical rescue, bush search and rescue, evidence searches (both metropolitan and rural), other forms of specialist rescue that may be required due to local threats, Urban Search and Rescue and Community First Response.
About you
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Tertiary qualifications in journalism, media/communications or marketing or demonstrated significant experience.
- Minimum of seven years’ experience in working within the media or in corporate communications, and be highly proficient at writing, editing, and publishing various materials such as media releases, talking points, newsletters, and web and social media content.
- Experience in planning, developing and implementing communication strategies, plans, media campaigns and events.
- Ability to work autonomously and in a team environment to complete set tasks.
- Experience at managing a small team to deliver results.
- Strong communicative and interpersonal skills so as to collaborate, advise and train various stakeholders.
- Capability to maintain awareness of critical issues within the media and report on them accordingly.
