The Corporate Lawyer - Health Safety Environment (HSE) & Transition will primarily focus on work, health and safety law, including HSE incident response and management of regulatory enforcement action. There will also be opportunities to be involved in environmental law matters, including energy transition.
What you'll be doing:
Reporting to the Group Counsel - HSE, People & Transition, you will:
- Provide legal support for Major Projects, Operations & People Business Unit at AGL.
- Respond to legal advice requests from AGL business units.
- Manage key legal risks within the AGL unit.
- Advise on integrated approaches to work, health, safety, environment, and energy transition.
- Collaborate with legal team and stakeholders to improve quality and efficiency of legal services.
- Offer legal counsel on work, health, safety, regulatory compliance, and enforcement, staying informed on legal and risk landscapes.
About You
What you'll bring to the table:
- Experience in either private practice or an in-house counsel role (or both) (approximately 5 years PQE) with experience in work, Health & Safety law.
- Bachelor of Laws degree and admitted to practice in an applicable Australian jurisdiction.
- Experience in advising on complex legal matters in relevant legal discipline.
- Ability to think analytically, communicate concisely, demonstrate initiative, strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to assist business in response to changes in the regulatory environment.
- Ability to work autonomously to tight deadlines and to efficiently manage resources, including briefing external lawyers.
- Ability and willingness to continue learning, building on your legal knowledge, experience and skills.
