Job description

About the role
Novartis is a global pharmaceutical leader that is dedicated to revolutionising medicine and enhancing the well-being of patients worldwide. Our purpose is to explore new avenues for extending and improving human life. If you have a strong desire to make a difference and wish to be part of an organisation that thrives on innovation, Novartis is the ideal place for you.
We are currently seeking a talented and experienced individual to lead our People and Organisation (P&O) function. As a member of the ANZ country leadership team and Regional P&O team, you will have the unique opportunity to shape the future of our organisation, spearhead strategic initiatives, and foster a culture of growth mindset, external competitiveness, and smart risk-taking.
At Novartis, we firmly believe that our people are our most valuable asset. In this role, you will play a pivotal role in attracting, developing, and retaining top talent. You will have the chance to establish a positive and empowering work environment where individuals can flourish and reach their full potential. Collaborating closely with business leaders and functional teams, you will provide strategic P&O guidance and support, ensuring that our workforce is equipped with the necessary skills and capabilities to drive our success.
In addition to leading the P&O function, you will also have the opportunity to contribute to Novartis' broader organisational objectives. You will actively participate in enterprise-wide projects and initiatives, collaborate with both internal and external partners, and contribute to the advancement of thought leadership in the P&O field. Your expertise and insights will help shape our people strategy, drive cultural transformation, and enable us to continue making a meaningful impact in the healthcare industry.
Your Responsibilities:
  • Actively participate in complex, enterprise P&O projects or initiatives, ensuring business representation and alignment.
  • Advise on and handle diversity, equity, and inclusion at all levels, including gender representation, LGBTI, and pay equity.
  • Coach leaders on team priorities and objectives linked to purpose and strategy, fostering collaboration, managing across the matrix, removing obstacles, and overcoming silos.
  • Contribute actively to the P&O community and network, acting as a leader and collaborating with internal and external partners to build P&O thought leadership.
  • Develop organisational design and plans for client groups using organizational diagnostics.
  • Create a talent and leadership development strategy and plan.
  • Drive the talent agenda, partnering with the business to establish quality succession planning, development plans for key talent, and a talent strategy to build the leadership pipeline.
  • Enhance leadership capabilities through coaching and drive client leadership teams to establish a solid governance structure, operating models, and culture that align with strategic business objectives.
  • Establish strategic workforce plans with leaders and develop organisation design efficiencies to support the long-term business strategy.
  • Identify critical capabilities for the future and develop plans to address capability gaps at the organisation and individual level.
  • Initiate career and development conversations with business leaders, understanding aspirations, skills, and required capabilities.
  • Lead the cultural change agenda in partnership with People Partners across all levels of the client groups.
  • Provide coaching, feedback, and support to leaders.
Role Requirements
Requirements:
  • Proven experience in HR leadership roles, preferably in a global organisation within healthcare.
  • An individual who has global HR experience with aspirations to further develop their career in other markets.
  • Strong knowledge and outlook for the 3-5 year business plans.
  • Demonstrated expertise in driving diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
  • Excellent coaching and leadership skills.
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to translate strategy into effective people and organizational interventions.
  • Strong understanding of organisational design, talent management, and performance management.
  • Ability to collaborate and build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
