The successful candidate will:
Have completed their supervised legal practice period;
Have 2+ years of experience in criminal law litigation;
Be able to manage all aspects of criminal law cases from initial consultation to resolution;
Be already confident and proficient in at least half of the following areas of criminal law (not simply interested in learning these areas):
Assault and violent crimes, including assault and battery;
Family violence intervention orders;
Drug offenses, including possession, trafficking, manufacturing and distribution;
Theft and property crimes;
Traffic offenses, including DUIs, reckless driving, speeding, dangerous driving and other traffic violations;
Domestic violence, including assault, harassment, stalking and IVO breaches;
White-collar crimes such as fraud, insider trading, bribery and money laundering; and
Public order offenses such as disorderly conduct, public intoxication, offensive behaviour and resisting arrest.
Be able to represent clients in court proceedings, mediations and negotiations, including by doing all their own court hearings except Final Trials in Indictable Offenses;
Have excellent organisational skills and attention to detail;
Have strong negotiation and interpersonal skills to deal with Prosecutions and clients;
Have excellent written and verbal communication skills;
Be confident when speaking with clients;
Be self-reliant and independent;
Have a driver's licence and a reliable care to travel to various Magistrates' Courts for hearings; and
Be currently billing equivalent of 3.2 times their current salary without a legal assistant / paralegal.
