Cultural Heritage Compliance Lead

About the team

This exciting new role is in the Cultural Heritage and First Nations Engagement Team – high performing professionals that deliver quality protection, conservation, compliance, and First Nations engagement services for the City.  The team is situated within the Environment and Heritage Branch of the Department Environment, Heritage, and Resilience which services City administration, the Council, and our community. 

About your new role

As Cultural Heritage Compliance Lead, your role is simple - playing a senior role in the team, you will lead the City’s Cultural Heritage Compliance service stream.  Working with key customers and stakeholders you will ensure the City’s land use activities do not harm historic and Indigenous Cultural Heritage consistent with the City’s statutory obligations. 
The role reports to the Coordinator Cultural Heritage and First Nations Engagement and is responsible for two direct reports that support the City’s Cultural Heritage Compliance service stream.  You will also promote the culture, purpose, and high-performance principles across the team. 

We're looking for people who have:

You are an exceptional communicator, supportive, and open to other ideas for problem-solving! You can translate technical complexities, have an analytical approach, and are keen to produce a high-quality Cultural Heritage Compliance service for the City. 
You will be an experienced archaeologist and have at least 5+ years of historic and Indigenous Cultural Heritage Compliance experience, and hold a post graduate degree of a relevant Cultural Heritage practice (archaeology, Cultural Heritage management).  Experience leading government Cultural Heritage Compliance programs and advisory services will be highly regarded. 

In addition to this: 

  • expert level understanding of Queensland Cultural Heritage legislation with particular emphasis on Cultural Heritage Compliance 
  • demonstrated experience in managing a range of complex historic and Indigenous Cultural Heritage Compliance matters through the life cycle of project planning and delivery 
  • enthusiastic and motivated, with the ability to work in a dynamic environment with often competing priorities and demands 
  • well developed interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, as well as consultation, negotiation, and presentation skills 
  • ability to problem solve and innovate, sourcing appropriate information and identifying workable solutions 
  • You have a collaborative work-style and the ability to mentor and lead others within a team environment 
  • You can manage multiple tasks and prioritise programs of work efficiently  
  • You are customer-focussed, delivering high quality services and listen and respond to customers and stakeholders appropriately 
  • You are proficient in technology and can adapt to new systems and processes.
