About the team
This exciting new role is situated within the Cultural Heritage and First Nations Engagement Team – high performing professionals that deliver quality protection, conservation, compliance, and First Nations engagement services for the City. The team is situated in the Environment and Heritage Branch of the Department Environment, Heritage, and Resilience which services City administration, the Council, and our community.
About your new role
As the Cultural Heritage Conservation Lead, your primary goal is simple - playing a senior role in the team, you willlead the City’s Cultural Heritage Conservation service stream, ensuring the Gold Coast’s Indigenous and historical Cultural Heritage is conserved.
In this new role you will plan and program manage Cultural Heritage Conservation priorities for the City and play a crucial role in providing expert strategic and operational conservation advice and leadership. The role reports to the Coordinator Cultural Heritage and First Nations Engagement and is responsible for one direct report that supports the City’s conservation service stream. You will also promote the culture, purpose, and high-performance principles across the team.
We're looking for people who have:
You are an exceptional communicator, supportive, constructive, and open to other ideas for problem-solving! You can translate technical complexities, have an analytical approach, and are keen to produce a high-quality Cultural Heritage Conservation service for the City.
You will have at least 5+ years of built Heritage Conservation experience and hold a graduate degree of a relevant Cultural Heritage practice (Cultural Heritage Conservation, Cultural Heritage management, architecture with specialisation in heritage, or equivalent). Experience providing technical built Heritage Conservation advice in a government context and/or full membership of Australia ICOMOS is highly desirable.
In addition to this, you'll have:
- expert level understanding of Cultural Heritage Conservation best practice
- demonstrated practical experience in the conservation of built Cultural Heritage
- You have effective leadership skills and are passionate, enthusiastic, and motivated
- You have developed interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, including negotiation, consultation, and presentation skills
- You have a collaborative work-style with the ability to research, analyse and investigate by seeking relevant facts, sourcing appropriate information and identifying workable solutions
- You are able to work independently and within a team environment and foster good relationships with other team members
- You have the ability to mentor others and prioritise and manage multiple programs and tasks in a dynamic environment
- You are able to deliver a high quality service to customers (internal and external) and understand/respond to customer expectations appropriately
- You are proficient in technology and able to adapt to new systems and processes.
