THE ORGANISATION
The Darebin Creek Management Committee Inc. (DCMC) is a not-for-profit organisation based in Alphington, 10 km from the Melbourne CBD. We care for the Darebin Creek, a 50km waterway which runs through the northern suburbs of Melbourne into the Yarra River, to support a healthy waterway, healthy biodiversity, places where of people and nature can connect and spaces for recreation.
We do this through collaborating with a broad range of stakeholders and community members to deliver education and environmental projects on lands within the Darebin Creek Valley, and manage the iconic Darebin Parklands, a significant 35-hectare urban park in Alphington/Ivanhoe.
THE POSITION:
DCMC is looking for a suitably qualified and passionate individual to join our Coordination Team to support our work in caring for the Darebin Creek catchment. The Project Officer will play an important role in collaborating to deliver environmental projects with partners, community groups and volunteers along the length of the Darebin Creek – from Ivanhoe in the south to Wollert in the north. It will have a strong focus on engaging the broader community and improving ways people can care for and enjoy the Creek environs.
The position is a permanent role, at 4 days per week – which may be extended to full time after the initial 12 months. Some weekend and our of hours work will be required.
Located at our Alphington offices at the beautiful Darebin Parklands, 10k from the Melbourne CBD, the role will lead the development of and delivery of environmental and community projects. This includes activities such as managing ecological restoration activities, citizen science, volunteer group support and development, community education and Traditional Custodian engagement. The role will also support the development of funding proposals, reporting and implement monitoring, evaluation and learning activities.
It will be a varied and rewarding role where the incumbent can apply and develop their skills, work in a small and dedicated team and make a real difference to the environment and communities of one of Melbourne’s key waterways.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
DCMC is looking for a person who has demonstrated qualifications, skills and experience, can work independently and can communicate well with a diversity of people. Key requirements for the position are:
- A tertiary qualification and demonstrated experience in environmental management and restoration, natural resource management, ecology or similar,
- Demonstrated experience in community engagement including working with people from diverse backgrounds and First Nations communities,
- Demonstrated experience in managing positive stakeholder relationships including collaborative program delivery,
- Well-developed project management, planning, budgeting and organisational skills and experience,
- Well developed in written and oral communication skills,
- Experience with or an understanding of working with volunteer groups to deliver conservation projects.
Desirable
- Experience working in the not for profit or local government sectors,
- Experience working with First Nations communities or organisations,
- Experience managing contractors.
A current drivers licence and Working with Children check are required for this position
