Deadly Choices Program Coordinator
What do we do?
Galangoor works with the local Indigenous community and relevant key stakeholders to increase access to culturally safe, quality, coordinated and comprehensive primary health care services. We focus on healthcare across the life span, including the management and reduction of chronic disease, to address the health and social inequities of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities of the Fraser Coast Region.
The Practice:
Galangoor Duwalami (meaning a 'good meeting place') is located on the Fraser Coast in sunny Queensland, with clinics in Hervey Bay and Maryborough.
This amazing opportunity exists with World Heritage Listed Fraser Island, Whale Watching and Maryborough Heritage Streetscapes as a backdrop.
Galangoor Duwalami Primary Health Care Service delivers in partnership with the Institute for Urban Indigenous Health the Deadly Choices Program.
The Deadly Choices program objectives are to promote healthy lifestyle choices and to enhance health literacy to prevent chronic disease developing in this generation, and future generations, of young Indigenous Queenslanders and to stem the increasing demand for more expensive secondary and tertiary care.
This role… is responsible for leading a small team of Program Officers to ensure high quality delivery of health education, promotion, and prevention activities. This is a great opportunity to work in a small team and work within the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
Within your role, you will be required to:
- Coordinate the development, implementation, and review of a range of health education, promotion and prevention activities.
- Contributing to Regional Action plans which provide a structured plan for program delivery and develop performance targets.
- Work with Galangoor to identify and strengthen internal referral pathways between services and programs and continuous improvement opportunities.
- Develop effective partnerships with community, school and Galangoor to enable efficient use of resources and integration of activities.
About you and to be successful in this role, you will have:
Under S25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 there is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be Indigenous. A Confirmation of Aboriginality may be required from the successful appointee.
- Minimum two (2) years experience in managing a team in a Team Leader, Team Coordinator or Manager role.
- Demonstrated ability to meet targets and performance outcomes.
- Interpersonal skills that demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate negotiate and liaise with clients and members of the community.
- Ability to lead, guide and manage people including the implementation of cultural change and change management opportunities.
- Current Blue Card (prior to commencement)
- Current C Class Driver’s License (QLD)
- Ability to travel across the designated region as required
- Criminal history checks will be undertaken on the preferred applicant
Desirable, but not mandatory:
- Certificate III or above in Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care – Community Care or equivalent (or willingness to undertake)
- Previous experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and /or communities.
- Current First Aid and CPR Certificate
WHAT WE ARE OFFERING:
Salary Package
- Competitive base salary + super + salary sacrifice + 4 weeks annual leave
- Clinic Days are Monday – Friday
- Rostered 7.6 hours between the hours of 8 am to 6 pm.
- No after hours or on-call
- Occasional attendance at community events may be out of hours or on the weekend
