The Senior School caters for over 850 students in Years 7-12, and has a dynamic Science Faculty that provides a comprehensive, engaging and relevant curriculum with the following subjects: Junior Science (Years 7-10), Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Marine Science (Years 10-12).
Duties and Responsibilities (abridged, full details in Applicant Information Pack):
- Lead high quality teaching and learning in the Science Faculty and ensure that effective teaching and learning takes place in all classes.
- Model exemplary teaching standards in their own teaching.
- Oversee the development and implementation of an engaging, innovative and meaningful Science curriculum.
- Maintain the effective functioning of the faculty, including providing advice on the faculty’s budget needs, approve expenditure within allocated budget, monitor and supervise security of faculty area and equipment, facilitate subject area and whole faculty staff meetings, handle incoming correspondence.
- Develop and implement a Faculty three-year and/or annual plan (as per policy), incorporating vision, professional and faculty development strategies, provide formal and informal feedback to the Director of Studies – Learning and Teaching on the Science Faculty.
- Manage the Science Faculty; ensure effective and harmonious relationships and teamwork both within the Faculty and with other faculties.
- Lead the professional development of Science staff in line with the College’s professional learning framework
- Oversee and manage matters related to professional performance and conduct with the support of the Director of Studies – Learning and Teaching.
- Ensure high standards of assessment and reporting are maintained.
- Ensure all Science teaching staff maintain effective contact with parents.
- Have an understanding of the philosophy of Christian Education and ability to translate it into practice in the classroom, playground, office and staffroom.
- High level of inter-relational skills, including communication skills and ability to motivate and inspire students, develop good working relations with parents and work as a member of a team
- Demonstrate an understanding of current educational trends.
- Using a variety of teaching and discipline strategies establish and maintain positive and consistent classroom management, referring children with learning difficulties to the Learning Support Department.
- Commitment to ongoing personal growth and development and a willingness to learn, including in areas of information technology.
