Due to the appointment of the College’s Dean of Students into the role of Acting Head of Secondary School, Penrhos has an exciting opportunity for a dedicated and pastoral individual to assume the role of Dean of Students, on a 2-year maximum-term contract commencing in Term 3, 2024 or as soon as possible after.   

The Dean of Students will seek to foster a nurturing approach to relationships with parents, students, staff, and the community and will lead the College’s pastoral care structure, policies, strategies and systems across the Secondary School.  
 
This role will work closely with the Head of Secondary School, School Leaders, Heads of Students, and teachers to ensure that students are supported throughout their school journey.  

This is a full-time (1.0 FTE) role, commencing Term 3, 2024 or as soon as possible.   

RESPONSIBILITIES RELATED TO THIS POSITION INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO, THE FOLLOWING: 

  • To work in consultation with the Head of Secondary School to actively promote and support the College’s values of Respect, Integrity, Empathy, Knowledge, Growth and Synergy. 
  • To oversee the wellbeing of Students in the Secondary School and the development, implementation and review of the College’s Wellbeing Framework and pastoral programs and practices. 
  • To be responsible for the planning, development, implementation, ongoing improvement and evaluation of pastoral care structure, policies, strategies, and systems across the Secondary School. 
  • To foster and provide a supportive approach to pastoral care for each student within the Secondary School that addresses the whole person paradigm of body, mind, heart, and spirit. 
  • To oversee pastoral tours, excursions, and camps. 
  • To ensure a coordinated approach to student orientation and transition for new and existing students. 
  • To support Pastoral/Wellbeing programs and be an active presence, as appropriate, in their delivery. 
  • To develop programs and opportunities to build community spirit amongst the students across the College. 
  • To foster community cohesion, identity, and connection - including parents, students, staff and the broader community. 
  • To collaborate with other staff members to create a positive and supportive learning environment for all students.  
  • To work in collaboration with the Junior School Pastoral Care Team to implement a PreK-12 Child Safety Program 

THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT WILL HAVE: 

  • The ability to lead pastoral care systems across Years 7 – 12. 
  • Significant experience in the education of secondary school students with a demonstrated record in the development and implementation of progressive pastoral care systems and protocols. 
  • Successful educational leadership experience within a school or school system.  
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal and communication skills. 
  • A commitment to excellence in education. 
  • Working with Children card (WWC) and Current National Police Clearance. 
  • A demonstrated commitment to providing students with a safe, supportive, and respectful environment.  
  • Post graduate qualifications, or working towards postgraduate qualifications will be highly regarded.
