ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY 

North East Funerals has been in partnership with the Coroners Court of Victoria for 20 years, providing transport services and repatriation services for the North East community.

We are currently seeking additional team members to work as casual Transport Officers to provide a significant and valuable service to our community through the retrieval of Deceased Persons from various locations within North East Victoria and transport thereafter to the coronial mortuary located at Southbank in Melbourne.

With a strong level of personal resilience, you will demonstrate a strong customer service orientation as well as a high level of respectfulness and professionalism in often challenging circumstances. Performing duties as a dual crew member or as a single operator, you will be required to work on a stand by basis, rotational roster that includes on call day and night Shifts.

ABOUT YOU

This opportunity is suited to a semi-retired or a retired person, with a great level of resilience, who demonstrates a compassion, dignity and respect of the Deceased Persons, and who understands the need to engage with professionalism and understanding with the families involved - traditionally suited to retired emergency services and law enforcement workers. The team member is required to reside within a 20 minute travel time of our Wangaratta location due to the response time required by the coronial service.  

Essential Skills and Attributes (Selection Criteria):

• Experienced working in health, hospital, funeral, aged care, emergency services or a related industry where you have had exposure to Deceased Persons.
• Must be physical fit as there is heavy lifting and bending required.
• Demonstrates a professional and respectful approach when handling and transporting Deceased Persons.
• Demonstrates empathy when interacting with families/friends of Deceased Persons.
• High levels of resilience, presentation and communication.
• Reliable and flexible in availability - able to work a rotational on call roster that includes nights, weekends and public holidays.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow direction and strict transport protocols.
• Sound understanding of OHS and manual handling procedures.
• An ability to work collaboratively within a team.
• Current Full Victorian Driver Licence with evidence of safe driving record.
• Up to date Influenza and COVID vaccinations required.
• Willingness to undertake a current Police Check.
