About the role - We are seeking a Defence School Mentor (DSM) who is passionate about the wellbeing of children and young adults as part of the Defence School Mentor Program (DSMP).
The DSM role provides specialised, on-site support to meet the needs of Defence students and their families within the school community. The DSM’s role is embedded in Mt Maria College’s pastoral care team.
This program, delivered in schools, is designed to provide practical assistance to Defence families and support the social and emotional wellbeing of Defence students within the school. The role is funded by the Defence Member and Family Support (DMFS) Branch of the Commonwealth Department of Defence.
Duties
- support the integration of new Defence students into the school including social, emotional and academic challenges
- support Defence students around parental absence and relocationprovide Defence families information as required
- raise awareness with school staff around Defence family challenges
Skills & Experience
- must posses a strong understanding of the Defence lifestyle
- high level skills in verbal and written communication
- abillity to plan, organise and deliver innovative programs and resources relating to Defence students and their families
- previous successful work with young people and families
To be eligible to be considered for this role you will:
- hold a Paid Employee Positive Notice Blue Card prior to commencement;
- be eligible to work in Australia for the duration of the appointment; and
- have a commitment to and understanding of the ethos and traditions of Catholic Education.
