This is a permanent, full-time position commencing Term 3, 2024

Koondoola Primary School (PS) is seeking a highly motivated and committed Deputy Principal to join their leadership team.

This role is for an Intensive English Centre (IEC) Deputy Principal. The successful applicant will ideally have knowledge of the IEC Guidelines for Schools. This includes the processes for enrolling students, monitoring their phases of learning, restructuring classes as required and exiting procedures.

The successful applicant should support and coach Teachers and Education Assistants. A knowledge of the English as an Addtional Dialect or Language (EALD) Progress Maps and how to use them for planning learning programs would be beneficial.

The ability to work with external providers such as the Red Cross and a Multi-Cultural Centre (MCC) desirable, as is working with interpreters to facilitate community communication and involvement.

The school has a collection and drop off system that utilises six buses to support consistent student attendence. This door to door service requires regular adjustment to accomodate newly enrolled students. Knowledge of how this or similar systems are used, would be considered highly beneficial but not essential.

As a significant percentage of our cohort come to us from trauma backgrounds, a knowledge of trauma informed practice and the ability apply this within our school context, would be highly desirable.

Individuals who possess excellent interpersonal skills and ideally have proven success in building and maintaining strong professional relationships with staff, students, parents, networks and the wider school community will be highly regarded.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position. 

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:

  • Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings.
  • High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes.
  • Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
  • Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

Eligibility and training requirements

 Employees will be required to:

  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment;
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
  • meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration requirements;
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement; and
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
