The Queensland Magistrates Court plays a vital role in the delivery of justice services. It is in this jurisdiction that the majority of Queenslanders first come into contact with the judicial system. Magistrates Courts deal with approximately 96 per cent of all criminal cases, handling the highest volume of court cases of any Queensland Court. Most civil actions are heard in the Magistrates Court jurisdiction. The Mount Isa Courthouse is a combined registry including Supreme, District and Magistrates Courts.Supreme and District Courts sit at Mount Isa approximately 16 weeks per year. Magistrates Court holds court every day, except when circuiting to Cloncurry, Julia Creek, Dajarra, Boulia, Camooweal, and Birdsville. Access theThe Deputy Senior Registrar, Mount Isa, is responsible for providing high level management and leadership in the operation of the Magistrates Court registry, including the capability and development of a highly skilled team of staff and the effective use of registry resources.This is a leadership position which is responsible for supporting innovation, performance, planning and advancing reforms as well as effectively engaging with courts' users and partners of the court. This position engages and provides quality administrative support to the resident magistrates as well as tailored services for indigenous communities and vulnerable people involved in the criminal justice system.The Deputy Senior Registrar reports to the Senior Registrar, Mount Isa Courthouse.As the Deputy Senior Registrar, you will be responsible for a range of duties including but not limited to:
- Lead the operations of the Supreme, District and Magistrates courts registry to review processes to identify and implement business improvements and cost saving initiatives to maximise resources and improve customer service delivery.
- Assist the Senior Registrar to contribute to the strategic direction of Court Services Queensland (CSQ) through aligning business priorities to the CSQ Strategic Plan and continued identification of opportunities for business improvement.
- Develop and maintain professional and collaborative relationships including the provision of high-level service to customers and stakeholders to the courts, including the judiciary.
- Provide effective delivery of justice services in line with relevant legislation, policies and delegated authority, ensuring adherence to ethical decision-making principles and standards.
- Apply knowledge of relevant legislation, policy and procedure to ensure effective delivery of court and registry services.
- Contribute to team effectiveness by offering value adding suggestions at meetings, providing learning feedback and support to staff, which aim to improve team performance and staff motivation and assisting other members of the team.
- Lead, mentor and motivate staff by fostering a co-operative working environment, monitoring staff performance, regular feedback on performance, and building staff capacity to perform competently. • Promote and achieve a positive and innovative organisational culture that values teamwork, ethical behaviour and high performance.
- Undertake financial and human resource management in line with relevant legislation, policy, practices, and delegated authority.
- Perform the statutory duties of an assistant Clerk of the Court when required.
- Any other reasonable tasks as delegated by the Senior Registrar.
