The Precision Tooling (PT) Department is based in Sydney and forms a part of the Global Moulding Function. Within the Precision Tooling Department, we are working to deliver high quality LSR injection moulds and automation to our internal customers using the latest industrial technology.
The Design Engineer is responsible for the creation of designs, detailed specifications, and engineering to enable manufacturing and delivery of new tooling through Precision Tooling and Global Tooling Partners. This tooling includes complex, multi-component injection-mould inserts, die-set assemblies, and End of Arm Tooling (EOAT).
The Design Engineer role is based in Kings ParkSydney, supporting global tooling manufacturing.
Letâs Talk About the Role
- Design and develop advanced injection-mould tooling to enable high-volume manufacture; process development trials; and rapid prototyping.
- Have a holistic design approach; an ideas integrator who considers our customers' needs, technology trends, environmental factors and design for high volume manufacturing.
- Be innovative and thorough in your approach to development, having the ability to perform at the right level of detail for the stage of the project.
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues, stakeholders, customers, and suppliers.
- Conduct Design for manufacture analysis, prototyping and verification activities to assess the feasibility/suitability of a design.
- Use CAD software to produce concepts, designs, detailed specifications, and engineering for new tooling to deliver Tooling projects in a timely and efficient manner.
- Work within the ResMed Quality system and standards whilst maintaining training requirements.
- Self-management of tasks by the individual and as directed by the Project and/or Team Leader.
- Assess, and communicate effectively, the impact of issues with internal customers.
- Promote safe working environment within OH&S guidelines.
Let's Talk About You
- A degree or trade qualification in Engineering, Tooling, Injection Moulding or Mechatronics Engineering, or equivalent.
- At least 3 yearsâ experience in part design and tool design for injection moulding; experience in tool-making advantageous.
- Experience in 3D CAD modelling (VISI, SolidWorks or similar) designing components for LSR or plastic moulding, prototyping and assembly.
- Critical thinking approach to solving novel design and engineering problems.
- Strong technical skills and engineering nous to enable innovative designs.
- Ability to define a problem; design options to solve this problem; design tests and experiments to trial new ideas; and analyze and learn from results.
- Effective in stakeholder management.
- Be self-driven, but not shy about asking for help.
- Have a passion for tinkering and a natural âmakerâ with the ability to prototype to an appropriate level of detail for testing.
- Excellent communication & documentation skills.
- Good knowledge of the fundamental principles of design.
- A mechanically minded person who is willing and capable to be hands-on.
- Willingness to undertake new and exciting challenges, demonstrating strong self-awareness; and openness to innovative ideas, experimenting and learning.
- Strong attention to detail.
