We have a new position arise within our Design department located at our Philippines shipyard for an experienced & motivated Design Manager. You will develop & maintain the Design Department to ensure efficient local design activities.

About the role
Design Manager develops and maintains the Austal Philippines Design Department ensuring efficient local design activities. To plan, organize and control design activities, to ensure that designs support Production requirements and meet all contractual and external needs, on time, within budget and to the Austal standard.
Key objectives & responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Establish a capable and professional Design department through effective resourcing planning & recruitment execution.
- Design planning and management of new project including definition of design scope, technical and regulatory constraints, quality, schedule and resourcing planning.
- Establish & maintain project design schedules through strong design planning & direction, resource forecasting & planning, materials requisitioning & planning, cost control & analysis.
- Monitor department KPI’s and take appropriate action where variances occur .
- Identify & address all potential precontract and emerging design risks in accordance with relevant specifications, policies & procedures, in a timely manner.
- Direct management of design personnel including recruitment, training, development & performance management
- Design sub-contractor management (if applicable)
- Implement & support continuous improvement initiatives with quality assurance & compliance
- Ensure Design personnel comply with Austal’s Safety, Health & Environmental policies & procedures; whilst striving to achieve a positive SH&E aware culture throughout the business
Required Skills / Experience / Attributes:
Essential
- A Bachelor degree in Engineering (Naval Architecture or Mechanical)
- A minimum of 10 years demonstrated work experience preferably in an aluminium shipbuilding industry
- Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English
- Good computer skills and knowledge of industry ship design software
- Good knowledge of Imo Rules (preferably IMO HSC Code)
- Has managerial experience
Desirable
- Chartered Engineer
