About the role

This position is a full-time role in the Development and Compliance team and is based at Council’s Moruya Administration Office. The role involves evaluating development impacts on Council's public infrastructure and approving appropriate projects, ensuring they adhere to Council standards and principles of Ecologically Sustainable Development. Your main duties will include:

  • Providing technical/specialist information and advice to a broad range of stakeholders.
  • Assessing engineering referrals, providing advice for development applications, recommending consent conditions, assisting Council officers, conducting site inspections, ensuring compliance with engineering standards, and implementing design changes for final approval.
  • Assist in the creation, implementation, and review of policies and guidelines, and contribute to strategic planning for Development Engineering issues.
  • Perform complex assignments and assessments, requiring practical engineering knowledge and experience. Participate in user groups, maintaining health and safety at work.
  • Assess and determine plans and documents for engineering issues before issuing Construction Certificates, advise case managers on plan amendments, and assess Construction Certificate, Section 68, and Roads Act applications.
  • Coordinate responses from Council officers/managers to address issues outside normal policy/procedure or design specification, ensuring adequate input and solutions are provided for final application approval.

Salary Information

Total remuneration for the role is in the range $95,068.45 to $116,224.25 gross per annum consisting of:

  • $82,379.89 to $100,712.07 base salary
  • $2,883.30 to $3,524.92 Civil Liability allowance
  • $9,805.27 to $11,987.25 superannuation (calculated at 11.5%)

A fully maintained Council leaseback vehicle (including full private usage) is also available with this position.

Appointment to this position is subject to the following:

  • A satisfactory outcome as a result of a National Criminal History Record Check.
  • Medical clearance to verify that you are safely able to undertake the duties of the position.

About you

The ideal candidate will have a degree level qualification in Civil Engineering or equivalent and demonstrated experience in this field, applications from candidates in their final year of degree study will also be welcomed. The candidate will be a proactive team player with strong communication and negotiation skills, collaborating with various stakeholders. Your application should further demonstrate the following:

  • A well-developed knowledge of the design, construction and operation of civil infrastructure including roads, drainage, water & sewerage systems.
  • Computer literacy with expertise in MS office (Word, Excel, Access).
  • Considerable and successful experience in mediation/negotiation and problem solving.
  • Understanding of Ecologically Sustainable Development.
