This position is based in Sydney, Australia, but we are open to considering any location in NSW, Australia.
Iberdrola Australia is one of the country's largest renewable energy businesses. Our generation portfolio is more than 95% renewable and includes 9 wind farms, 3 solar farms, 2 grid scale batteries and 2 fast-start peakers.
As a Development Manager, your role is to deliver renewable energy development projects already in the pipeline (wind, solar, BESS), from early planning stages to final investment decision. The role requires strong development management skills and an understanding of commercial, land, planning, network and energy resource considerations in order to develop renewable energy projects.
This role sits in a team that interacts closely with and coordinates inputs from a range of internal stakeholders, including Engineering, Energy Resource, Energy Markets, Finance and Legal.
Responsibilities include:
Establish project plan and tender process
- Initiate new projects and progress the development of Iberdrola’s development portfolio through a structured project plan.
- Initiate and manage environmental assessment, and planning approvals, with the support of external consultants.
- In conjunction with the internal technical teams, collaborate and assist in the management of procurement processes, design development, yield assessment and grid connection studies.
Consult with major stakeholders
- Meet with planning and regulatory bodies to obtain and maintain support for projects.
- Communicate regularly with stakeholders, including landowners, community, and media, to obtain and maintain the social licence to operate.
- Consult and inform key internal stakeholders and ensure that project priorities are achieved, and deadlines are met.
- Keep abreast of renewable energy policy developments, consultations, and regulations.
Manage project planning
- Define the project delivery plan, schedule, work breakdown structure tasks and resource requirements against project timeline.
- Provide regular progress reports against project plans, reporting to project stakeholders and management.
- Identify, document and mitigate risks.
- Maintain and apply knowledge of current and proposed renewable energy policy and regulatory frameworks at federal, state and local government levels.
- Assist with the preparation of the Investment Dossier to ensure all relevant stakeholders are engaged.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor / Masters of Engineering, Commerce, Science, Planning, Property or Law. Other qualifications may be considered
- Knowledge of project management, the Australian energy market, NSW planning approvals and the development process
Experience
We're looking for a driven individual with minimum 5 years' professional experience in resources, energy (with a strong preference in wind, solar or BESS), consulting, planning and working with multidisciplinary teams.
The ideal candidate should have an understanding of the development process of a wind project, with ideally hands on experience (rather than general oversight over projects) in one or more of these fields:
- land agreements
- landholder and stakeholder engagement
- wind farm design, energy resource or grid
- planning approvals for state significant development (SSD) in NSW (will consider candidates relocating from other Australian states)
- general project management and expertise collaborating and coordinating with internal and external stakeholders
Preference may be given to candidates with the following:
- Demonstrated experience progressing largescale wind ideally, and/or solar or BESS projects in NSW
- Successful development and management or relationships with colleagues, partners and stakeholders
- Successful coordination of internal team inputs through the development phases
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Travel Requirements
- willing to travel within NSW to project sites
- if located elsewhere in NSW, should be willing to come to Sydney 1-2 times per month to connect with the team and key stakeholders
