The Job
The Dhelk-Dja Family Violence Practitioner works with Aboriginal Perpetrators, Victim/Survivors and their children to identify both immediate and medium-term goals with the focus on reducing risk, regaining control and setting a course for healing and recovery. Reporting to the Southern Region Manager, they are to develop case & counselling plans to document the plan and goals for the support period of Family Violence victims.
In performing their duties, the worker will work with all survivors of Family Violence under general direction and within guidelines and procedures that are well established.
Responsibilities include:
- Develop and address individualised therapeutic case plans of each victim, these need to document goals of the individual and ensure it addresses the steps for moving forward
- Establish therapeutic Supports in line with the program to deliver the best possible support to victims/ Suvivors.
- Consider and address therapeutic services which address the longer-term impacts on the psychological and emotional well-being of survivors
- Participate in the planning, implementation, and provision of group options.
- Provide discipline-specific input to the team’s work and to other programs within the Service.
- Liaise with a range of clinical, community groups and agencies with a view to improving the provision and co-ordination of a broad range of services to the target group.
- Provide detailed examination, risk assessment of clients.
- Provide client and family consultation, assessment, support, referral and follow up for clients impacted by Family Violence and the related health issues including grief and loss, trauma, mental health and/or alcohol and other drug use
- Participate in team care planning for Dhelk Dja clients.
- Provide outreach support (as required).
- Work in partnership with clients in the provision of recovery focused interventions and the development of goals identified in an agreed plan.
- Facilitate and participate in community screening activities.
- Provide and create community Family Violence education, awareness and prevention programs
- Work collaboratively with other service providers to develop and implement cultural understanding.

Your Skills and Experience
- Qualification minimum Certificate IV in Community Services, Social Work or related field.
- Counselling Accreditation or Equivalent. ( CHC51015)
- Relevant experience working in the community services sector in Family Violence services
- Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal history and/or culture and commitment to the Aboriginal community
- Skills in working independently, generally within defined guidelines, and as a team member
- Willingness and ability to work within and contribute to the vision, purpose and core values of the organisation.
- Able to develop positive relationships with clients and work within a fast paced environment
- A high level of organization skills and attention to details
- First Aid (desirable)
Mandatory Certifications
- Satisfactory National Police Check (International if applicable)
- Victorian Employment Working With Children's Check
- Driver's License
