Newmont Tanami is on Aboriginal freehold land 540km northwest of Alice Springs. It is a long-life, low-cost, world-class asset in a core Newmont region. The Tanami Expansion 2 project, aims to extend the mine life beyond 2040, investing in a hoisting shaft which will increase the production of the underground mine from 2.6 Mtpa to 3.2 Mtpa. Both the successful exploration within the underground operation and implementation of the first Tanami Expansion has laid the foundation to further develop the operation to remain a major contributor to the Newmont portfolio. A fully equipped camp is located 40km from the site offering leisure facilities for those flying in from Perth, Brisbane, Alice Springs or Darwin.

In this role, you will join a diverse team and have the opportunity to advance your career with a world leading and innovative gold mining company. With multiple roles on offer, rosters available are 8:6 (8 days on, 6 days off) working in our underground and surface workshops and 2:2 (2 weeks on, 2 weeks off) working with our rebuild teams we offer multiple points of hire flying from Darwin, Alice Springs, Brisbane and Perth.
As a Diesel Fitter with Newmont, you will be required to perform preventative and breakdown maintenance of our mobile maintenance equipment ensuring we continue to safely meet and exceed our throughput targets.
Duties will include the servicing and maintenance of our mining fleet including but not limited to our modern fleet of Sandvik drills, Cat loaders, integrated tool carriers, haul trucks and ancillary equipment with the opportunity to upskill as our electric machinery increases onsite. You will ensure maintenance activities are completed safely, efficiently and effectively and will be responsible for maximising the use of scheduled maintenance and minimising the impact of unscheduled works.
With OEM support readily available onsite and working with a modern fleet of machinery, what are you waiting for?
To be considered, you will have post trade experience and hold a relevant trade qualification. Previous experience working in underground / mining environments and underground breakdown experience will be highly regarded.
By demonstrating a commitment to safety, using your experience and judgement to ensure you and your workmates remain safe with the ability to set good examples, along with a positive mind set, will see you succeed in this role.
Qualifications and Competencies
- A relevant Australian recognised trade qualification.
- Demonstrated maintenance and fault-finding skills.
- Proactive approach, and ability to problem solve.
- An understanding of AS3000, Mines Regulations and Acts as well as other relevant standards, acts and regulations.
- Excellent communication skills with attention to detail
- C class manual drivers' license
Highly regarded:
- Previous experience working in underground / mining environments.
- Underground breakdown experience
- Experience working on CAT and Sandvik machines.
- Unit of competency in confined space and working at heights
