Wettenhalls is a specialized transport provider catering to niche customers, delivering goods tailored to their unique needs. With a workforce of 400 employees, including truck drivers, forklift operators, operational and administrative staff, support services personnel, and mechanics, Wettenhalls ensures seamless operations at every level. Their extensive fleet comprises 120 prime movers and 280 trailers, all serviced in-house in Victoria, guaranteeing reliability and efficiency in the transportation services.
Given Wettenhalls' self-servicing approach to its fleet, mechanics play a pivotal role in ensuring the continuous operation of our vehicles, thus enabling us to meet the needs of our valued customers effectively. As a result, they are seeking a skilled and dedicated Diesel Motor Mechanic to join the team.
Position: Diesel Motor Mechanic
Salary: $88,920 per annum
Location: 36-64 Walpole Parade Norlane, Geelong, VIC, 3214
Job Type: Permanent position, Full time
Primary responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
1. Collaborate closely with the team and team leader to aid in planning fleet maintenance schedules effectively.
2. Construct and assemble parts or mechanical components as per specifications.
3. Inspect equipment, engines, transmissions, etc., and conduct diagnostic tests to identify functionality issues.
4. Perform repairs with the goal of ensuring maximum reliability.
5. Identify and troubleshoot reported problems, resolving them promptly.
6. Execute comprehensive maintenance tasks on all equipment and systems within agreed timeframes and in accordance with safety and compliance standards.
7. Clean equipment and components thoroughly, applying lubricants as necessary.
8. Refill fluids and replace components in engines and equipment as needed.
9. Initiate purchase orders for parts and machinery.
10. Offer guidance and advice to the operations team and vehicle drivers regarding proper maintenance and preventive measures for equipment.
11. Fulfill any additional duties as assigned by the manager.
To be considered for this role, your key skills and attributes must include:
1. Minimum of three years of working experience in the domain or a similar equivalent.
2. Education level of Certificate III in Automotive Diesel Engine Technology OR Trade Certificate as Heavy Vehicle Mechanic.
3. Proficient knowledge of equipment, including hydraulics, electrical systems, and other components.
4. Proficiency in utilizing a variety of hand tools (e.g., screwdrivers, hammers) and precision measurement tools (e.g., calipers).
5. Strong analytical abilities enabling the analysis of data and identification of trends, coupled with the capacity to follow established procedures, read instructions, and interpret blueprints.
6. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, fostering the establishment of robust relationships across the organization.
7. Demonstrated capability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams and implement process enhancements.
8. Effective organizational skills, adept at managing multiple projects simultaneously.
9. Familiarity with Freight Management Systems such as FMS or F2020.
10. A steadfast commitment to adhering to all health and safety guidelines.
11. Demonstrated physical strength and endurance.
