The Clare & Gilbert Valleys Council is the peak regional government entity responsible for providing services, infrastructure assets, managing community funds and advocating on behalf of our residents. Their mission is to grow their population, whilst maintaining an engaged, vibrant, and attractive community with a shared respect for their natural and built environment and a productive economy that fosters innovation and excellence.
An opportunity now exists for a Director Corporate Services to join the Council in a full-time position on a permanent basis.
The Role
Reporting through to the CEO, you’ll be responsible for providing strategic leadership, oversight, and management of the full Corporate Services function. Duties will include:
- Providing effective leadership within the department, across the Council and within the community as well as being an effective member of the Management Team
- Ensuring that the Council provides industry best practice in the areas of governance, administrative practices and council members support
- Leading the review of the Council’s financial strategy, budget, business plans; oversee their implementation; and supervise the overall management of the Council finances, records management and customer service
- Ensuring that the Council maintains accurate and reliable information, systems and technology to meet its business needs
- Developing and maintaining best practice people & culture management and ensuring that there is a program in place to develop and improve the organisation to meet its needs into the future
- Developing, complying and administering the Council’s Risk Management and Work, Health and Safety Programs
- Relevant degree or tertiary qualifications in an area focused on risk, public administration, management, human resources or a related corporate discipline
- Strong communication skills and the ability to liaise with key internal and external stakeholders
- Experience in managing staff to elicit sound performance and teamwork
- Experience in providing advice to the Mayor, Elected Members, Managers and Staff
- Understanding of the Corporate Services function, including, governance, financial services, IT, human resources and WHS
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills and work ethic, including the ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality, discretion and diplomacy
