Job Description

As the Director Application Services, you will join the IT leadership team reporting to the Head of IT, to provide the leadership, vision, and direction for the Application Services team.

You will:

  • Manage the applications landscape & roadmap and drive continuous improvement/enhancement initiatives across application platforms and the business.
  • Provide end-to-end management of all enterprise applications platforms including Microsoft Azure, Dynamics 365, Microsoft Power Platform, systems integration and web environments
  • Provide strong leadership to the Application Services team to ensure monitoring, response, and immediate resolution capabilities are operating effectively.
  • Partner with legal, procurement, finance and contracts teams to manage key technology relationships with external service providers and platform vendors
  • Partner with cyber security and GRC teams to ensure security and compliance requirements are met and risks are effectively managed
  • Communicate cross-divisionally and coordinate with business and technical groups regarding applications and developing application solutions
  • Ensure that business has the capabilities required to maintain the integrity and availability of production environments.
  • Lead the ongoing maturing of risk management outcomes, processes and team culture
  • Coordinate and manage third party vendors, contract negotiations, licensing, maintenance contracts and service level agreements.
  • Compose complex business cases to secure capital funding for relevant programs of work to deliver the strategic roadmap.
  • Promote and educate on the vision and create a bias for action to deliver the vision and associated Roadmap.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including IT, operations, and business stakeholders.
  • Anticipate changes in customer needs and actively adapt delivery plans, ensuring the delivery of the customer digital transformation roadmap.

Candidate’s Profile

To be successful in this role, you will have 10+ years of experience in leading enterprise applications teams across software engineering, enterprise applications management, digital platforms and web applications

A Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or related field with Masters qualifications highly advantageous.

Your background will demonstrate:

  • Mix of commercial and government experience is preferred (Defence Industry is ideal)
  • Experience with managing outsourcing and insourcing arrangements (contracts, commercial, legal etc) – experience changing organisational structures from one to the other is ideal
  • Candidates from business focussed roles OR technical focussed roles are equally good – please don’t discount one or the other
  • Experience leading applications teams in an enterprise or large business environment setting
  • Technical background in Microsoft Azure, Dynamic 365, Microsoft Power Platform, systems integration and web applications/CMS
  • Prior experience managing blended teams of internal permanent & contract staff, consulting services and managed services partners in a complicated enterprise setting
  • Experience working with Defence or Federal Government is highly regarded.
  • Experience working in highly regulated/controlled environments is high regarded
  • Ability to think in technical and non-technical terms to find solutions fit for purpose
  • Extensive leadership experience with a focus on engagement and high performance
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders and inspire and motivate teams to achieve ambitious goals.
  • Experience as a mentor and coach who is committed to developing talent and fostering a culture of learning and growth within the team
  • Experience as a collaborative business partner who can work effectively with cross-functional teams, including finance, legal, contracts and procurement teams
  • Ability to be a problem solver who can navigate complex challenges and drive solutions that deliver measurable business impact.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, high-growth environment and are comfortable navigating ambiguity and driving results in high growth environments.
  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to manage and mentor junior team members.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple competing priorities simultaneously.
