The Director of Operations is a key member of the Coal Assets Australia senior management team and responsible for the direction and achievement of operational excellence across our portfolio of assets. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer for the Australian Coal Assets Division, this executive role is a key advisor and central figure to the implementation of the organisation's vision and strategic direction.
Our NSW operations in the Hunter Valley & Mudgee regions include six (6) open cut mines and three (3) underground operations with each asset supported by a coal preparation plant. These operations produce a combined run of mine (ROM) tonnes of around 80 million tonnes per year and have a workforce of over 6,000 people.
Our Queensland operations in the Bowen Basin comprise four (4) producing open cut mines and an underground mine as well as several coal preparation plants and related surface infrastructure. Together these assets currently produce 45 million ROM tonnes and employ a workforce of around 3,700 people.
In this pivotal role you are accountable for maintaining organisational effectiveness in the manner in which resources are allocated to the assets (including people and equipment) such that operations can deliver on their business plans and be successful. At the same time, you will optimise synergies at each mining complex and across operations in order to maximise value for shareholders. This includes collaboration with joint venture parties and executive committees to support positive business case for improvement opportunities.
A key aspect of the role is to elevate the focus on assurance and proper governance across all mining practices as well as enforcing discipline to company values and effective process control. You set your expectation of what are acceptable behaviours and provide influential leadership shaping the attitudes of management and employees. You recognise positive approaches to operational issues that constitute leading practice and then share these learning's to other parts of the business, ultimately striving for common standards of excellence across the organisation.
To be considered for this appointment, you will have extensive mining experience in a senior operations or strategic management role. The role requires that you be appointed as Company Director for one or more business entities and previous experience performing in this capacity is essential.
