BuildSkills Australia is an Australian Jobs and Skills Council (JSC) and the voice of the building, construction, property, civil infrastructure and water sectors. Providing independent advice on current, emerging, and future workforce, skills, and vocational training needs, BuildSkills Australia works with employers, unions, state and territory governments, and education and training providers to improve skills development, employment opportunities and economic growth.
The Director Policy Analysis & Advocacy reports to the Executive Director Research and Planning and works closely with the broader BuildSkills team to ensure a high level of consultation and collaboration in the development of BuildSkills submissions. The position is responsible for preparing written submissions and report, working with policymakers on public policy issues and providing advice to the Executive and Board
Specific accountabilities include:
- Monitoring the Australian jobs and skills policy environment and providing advice on the impact of developments on BuildSkills, including identifying risks and opportunities.
- Preparing written submissions and reports in response to departmental requests, discussion papers and other consultations.
- Providing advice to the Executive and Board on key issues including preparing briefings, talking points and slide decks to facilitate BuildSkills’ engagement activities.
- Working with policymakers and other stakeholders on public policy issues relevant to the BuildSkills business, including representing BuildSkills in stakeholder meetings.
Identified as having significant talent, you must possess drive and determination to succeed in an ever-changing environment. You will demonstrate outstanding analysis skills, writing skills, communication skills, and an ability to influence and negotiate with numerous stakeholders. You will possess relevant qualifications, knowledge of government processes, funding and experience delivering significant policy outcomes.
Your ability to understand key business drivers and translate these into sound commercial decisions in a similar environment or related industry will be highly regarded. Finally, it goes without saying that you will be skilled in inspiring individuals and teams in the pursuit of results.
