Job DetailsJob Title: Director, SecurityEmployment Type: OngoingClassification: Parliamentary Executive Level 2Closing Date: 11:30pm AEDT, Friday 7 June 2024Contact: Leanne Tunningley, 02 6277 2894, Leanne.Tunningley@aph.gov.auThe OpportunityThe Department of Parliamentary Services (DPS) is recruiting for various high performing Parliamentary Executive Level 2 Director, Security Division positions.The Security Division is responsible for broader security functions to support the business of DPS and Australian Parliament House (APH) security arrangements, engaging with many different APH security stakeholders, including the AFP, the Department of the House of Representatives, the Department of the Senate, the Ministerial Wing Support and other entities within the Parliamentary precincts.The DPS comprises of over 1,000 staff that support the Parliament of Australia through innovative, unified and client-focused services. Every year, around 800,000 people visit Australian Parliament House (APH) to experience the parliamentary process, and to enjoy the architecture, art collections, events, tours, and dining experiences - all made possible by our people, who are active participants in an environment where no two days are the same.Who we are looking forThe Security Division is responsible for the provision of security services, building security, access management, security capability asset management, APH and DPS security policy, security risk management, resilience planning and emergency management.Security Division is a dynamic and fast-paced work environment. We work closely with diverse stakeholders who have unique needs and engage with our service delivery. We liaise extensively with other federal agencies and parliamentary departments to manage security at APH.This role requires strong leadership skills, the ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, and a dedication to maintaining compliance with the Protective Security Policy Framework.The ideal candidate will display strong personal accountability, have experience managing complex stakeholder relationships, be agile and adaptable, and effectively deal with ambiguity and change.Job Specific Requirements:
  • The successful applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting 1 (Confidential/Highly Protected/Secret) security clearance.
  • Undergo a pre-employment medical assessment and be declared physically and/or medically fit for all inherent requirements of the role.

We welcome applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, mature age people, people from diverse backgrounds and people with disability.Duty StatementClassification: Parliamentary Executive Level 2Branch: VariousSection:Immediate supervisor: Assistant Secretary Security Enabling Services Branch / Assistant Secretary, Security Operations BranchUnder limited/general direction undertake duties in accordance with the agreed standards for the Parliamentary Executive Level 2 classification. The duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Lead the strategic direction, workflow and personnel of the section ensuring that priorities, policies and standards are fit for purpose and correctly implemented.
  • Liaise and collaborate with key internal and external stakeholders and keep across developments related to security matters.
  • Continue to strengthen the protective security culture within DPS and Australian Parliament House and assist the Assistant Secretary Security Enabling Services Branch / Assistant Secretary, Security Operations Branch to maintain compliance with the Protective Security Policy Framework.
  • Lead the promotion and application of continuous improvement principles in order to benefit the way the section analyses security patterns and provides advice and guidance on security matters.
  • Respond to issues as they arise and take responsibility for seeing them through to completion.
  • Build, maintain, shape and influence key partnerships with internal and external stakeholders and represent DPS at relevant meetings and activities.
  • Utilise strong staff management skills and experience to lead a high performing team.
  • Provide strategic support to the Assistant Secretary, Security Enabling Branch / Assistant Secretary, Security Operations Branch on delivery of security requirements, both immediate and long term.
  • Other duties as requested.

SalaryAn attractive salary, which could be negotiated with the successful candidate, is on offer.Conditions of EmploymentEmployment opportunities at Department of Parliamentary Services are subject to a range of conditions prescribed in the Parliamentary Service Act 1999 which include:
  • Australian citizenship - to be eligible for employment with DPS, applicants must be an Australian Citizen.
  • Security clearance and character clearance - the preferred applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a security clearance at the level specified, as well as complete and be deemed suitable through a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check.
  • Health assessment - a pre-employment health assessment will be required where there are physical or medical requirements for the role.
