NSW Resources Regulator (a division of Mining, Exploration and Geoscience) is the state’s Work Health and Safety regulator for mines and petroleum sites. The Regulator also undertakes compliance and enforcement activities in relation to the Mining Act 1992, with a key focus on mine rehabilitation activities.

About the role:

Reporting directly to the Chief Inspector you’ll be responsible for providing leadership and direction to Principal Inspectors and Managers as well as:

• Leading and coordinating specialist technical and strategic safety programs, advice, support, high risk activity applications and licensing functions across all NSW mines, with an emphasis on high hazard mining operations
• Providing expert technical advice to the Chief Inspector and Executive Director in relation to operational delivery, regulatory actions, emerging issues of concern, compliance performance, areas for reform and continuous improvement
• Lead specialist regulatory activities to ensure mine operations comply with health and safety legislation
• Lead and coordinate specialist engineering and technical advice for the Mine Safety team and across all mining sectors within the Regulatory Framework
• Lead and coordinate work planning, specialised targeted assessment and intervention processes
• Leading the emergency response preparedness and planning and emergency response activities for the Regulator
• Lead targeted health and safety campaigns, workshops, working groups or committees, industry forums and community meetings.

About you:

With a strong demonstrated understanding of legislation, Departmental policies and procedures, Australian and International Standards and industry guidelines, you’ll be someone who can exercise effective leadership across a large geographical area.

You’ll be someone who can make independent decisions on complex, politically sensitive and challenging regulatory issues and enforcement actions, and can ensure that services are delivered in a transparent and timely manner and within allocated program budgets.

You’ll also need demonstrated leadership experience in a regulatory environment and relevant tertiary qualifications.
