A unique opportunity to lead the South Australian Government's Veterans' Affairs folio. Reporting to the Chief Executive, Defence SA, the Director is responsible for managing all policies, grants, services and relationships within the veterans' community and within state and federal governments.
About Us
Veterans SA was established to provide support to the veteran community. We work closely with the Veteran's Advisory Council to provide advice to the South Australian Minister for Veterans' Affairs on all matters affecting the veteran community.
Veterans SA provides services to promote veterans and their families well-being, collaborate with ex-service organisations and provide a conduit between the Veteran community and the Minister.
Veterans SA promotes Australia's wartime history and the significance of national events.
Role Purpose/Context
The Director, Veterans SA reports to the Chief Executive, Defence SA on all veterans' affairs matters and represents the South Australian Government in the veteran community at state and national forums. The role works closely with the South Australian Government Minister for Veterans' Affairs and his office. The role manages a small team to develop strategic outcomes, policies and administer grants.
The Director will also be responsible for working with State and Commonwealth agencies to implement recommendations for the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide as relevant to South Australia.
Key Selection Criteria:
- Australian military experience is highly desirable.
- Awareness and understanding of national and local veterans associations and programs.
- A demonstrable history of leading teams and delivering successful programs.
- A proven track record of building successful relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to interpret key information into advice and actions.
- A comprehensive knowledge of historic and contemporary veterans related matters.
- The ability to manage a budget.

Special Conditions
This is a contract / term vacancy up to 36 months. The incumbent is required to enter into an annual performance agreement. Work outside of normal hours will be required as will intrastate and interstate travel involving overnight absences.
Essential Qualifications/Experience
Management experience in a complex environment dealing with multiple stakeholders is essential. A relevant degree, post graduate qualification and/or formal management qualification is highly desirable.
