The Disability Carer will provide individual support to people with disability, using a flexible, responsive and individualised approach to assist participants to meet their individual and articulated goals. This role will require working in a diverse range of settings including but not limited to, a person’s home or place of residence, other services, community groups and other community settings.

We require EXPERIENCED Disability Carers for SIL and Community environments, particularly when working with individuals with complex trauma.
We have SIL houses across Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and Hunter.
MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collaborate with clients (and relevant stakeholders such as their family members and the Disability Carer Coordinator) in the development of their individualized Care Plan;
- Assist clients to undertake a range of daily living activities, such as attending appointments, shopping, engaging in community and social activities;
- Assist clients to undertake personal and self-care activities, such as showering, dressing and eating;
- Assist clients to undertake domestic responsibilities in their home, such as cooking, cleaning and managing their household duties;
- Assist clients who have high physical needs and/or behaviours of concern.
- Support clients to use their preferred method of communication and assist them to be understood, listened to and responded to at all times; and
- Provide companionship, support and build mutually respectful relationships with clients.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Completed a Certificate IV, Diploma or Bachelors Degree in Disabilities, Youth Work, Community Services,Psychology, Social Work and/or other relevant studies;
- Previous experience in working with people living with a disability, mental health concerns or other relevant experience;
- Experience working with Supported Independent Living participants with complex needs and requiring a high level of supports;
- Ability to work as a team and unsupervised.
- Must have Police check, WWCC, current First Aid, Driver's license, and NDIS Quality & SafeguardsCommission Worker Orientation Module certificate.
