Diverse Education Teacher
Morphett Vale & Aldinga Campus
Commencing Immediately 2024 FTE 0.8 (initially, 0.4 at each campus for six months)
The successful applicant must have:
- Current Teacher Registration
- An undergraduate or postgraduate degree in Inclusive Education or similar OR a Bachelor of Education and prior experience in working and leading in Special Education settings
- Proven leadership qualities and experience
Diverse Education Role:
The Diverse Education Teacher will be part of a three-person team that coordinates a team of Student Support Officers (SSOs). The Diverse Ed Teacher will work with the wider learning community at Southern Vales Christian College to develop and maintain practices and structures in learning environments and social emotional aspects of school life, enabling students with diverse needs to excel in Christian Education and character, inspiring greatness while serving communities and impacting nations.
Main Responsibilities:
The successful applicant will be required to:
- Work collaboratively with primary and secondary classroom teachers and SSOs to support assessment for learning of their students with additional educational needs and identify specific learning and support needs.
- Work with external agencies to assess students, evaluate profiles across learning, social/emotional and physical aspects of development as they relate to education settings and report to parents.
- Plan, implement, model, monitor and evaluate support programs for students with additional learning and support needs in conjunction with regular classroom teachers.
- Assist other Diverse Ed Leaders in providing professional advice, support and mentoring to classroom teachers on how best to cater for the diverse learning needs in their classrooms including those students who qualify for Modified SACE.
- Provide advice on appropriate specialist services to parents and teachers (eg. Educational Psychologist, Occupational Therapist, Speech Pathologist etc).
- Take the lead role in Diverse Education with the assistance from the other Diverse Education Teacher at the Aldinga and Morphett Vale campus in managing and monitoring SSOs, setting their timetables and assisting with planning for individual and group withdrawal support.
- Collaboratively write and review Individual Education Plans (IEP) for eligible Primary and Secondary students.
- Coordinate the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD) for primary and secondary at the Aldinga and Morphett Vale Campus with assistance from the other Diverse Ed Teacher.
Reporting/Working Relationships:
The Diverse Education Teacher is responsible to the Heads of School and the Principal.
Other Requirements:
- Mandatory Notification certificate for which the training was done less than three years ago.
- A current Working With Children Clearance.
- A First aid certificate or be willing to obtain one.
- Highly energetic and has a passion for working with students who have special needs.
- Relevant and demonstrated experience in similar roles.
- An active approach to interacting and engaging with Primary and Secondary students.
- Understanding and working knowledge of working within the school environment.
- Strong team skills.
- Strong communication skills.
- Understanding of and experience in supporting students with Autism, ADHD, anxiety, Specific Learning Disabilities and other profiles such as PDA (Pathological Demand Avoidance), and an understanding of students who have experienced trauma.
