Diversional Therapist

  • Permanent Full Time | Monthly day off + 5 weeks annual leave

About the role

An exciting opportunity is available for an enthusiastic Diversional Therapist to join Eastern Health working across Continuing Care - a new and innovative subacute service specialising in the progression of care with a particular focus on patients with disabilities.

The position is responsible for planning, development and implementation of the diversional therapy and activity programs for the Continuing Care program. Diversional therapy offers a specialised activity program for patients within the program which encourages promotion of a person’s retained cognitive ability and aims to reduce high risk incidents (i.e. agitation and aggression) through positive sensory stimulation; occupation and orientation through group activities; and 1:1 person centred activities.

About you 

To be successful in this role you will possess:

    • Certificate IV in Leisure and Lifestyle or equivalent 
    • A current basic food handling certificate or be prepared to obtain this within the first 3 months of employment  
    • Ability to assess and deliver patient centred programs to people with disabilities and cognitive impairment 
    • Excellent skills in identifying and supporting others to manage challenging behaviours through the use of activities 
    • Experience in contributing to patient care plans as part of a multidisciplinary team 
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written 
    • Willingness to learn, collaborate with other staff and respond to feedback to develop skills within the diversional therapy team 
    • Highly motivated, enthusiastic and committed to subacute care 
    • A current Victorian driver’s licence
