About the opportunity
  
The team at Carrie’s Place is excited by the future and the many ways in which they can positively impact the lives of their clients. The primary purpose of this role is to uphold the Organisation’s vision by supporting zero tolerance towards violence and homelessness.
  
Reporting to the Women’s Domestic Violence Court Advocacy Service (WDVCAS) Program Manager, the DFV Specialist Worker exercises a high level of responsibility across the WDVCAS Program area and collaborates closely with the Safety Action Meeting Coordinator.
  
Duties Include:

  • Contacting clients referred to the WDVCAS in a timely manner, conducting a threat assessment to ascertain their current risk status and undertaking safety planning to address a client’s immediate safety needs.
  • Liaising with the Safety Action Meeting Coordinator to ensure all clients assessed as “a serious threat’ are placed on the agenda for the next Safety Action Meeting when necessary.
  • Providing relevant information and making warm referrals to a range of service providers to assist clients with their ongoing needs.
  • Attending court on AVO list days and other days as required to provide information, assistance and Court Advocacy for WDVCAS clients as directed by the WDVCAS Manager.
  • Developing and maintaining strong working relationships with key WDVCAS partners, including NSW Police Force, local courts, legal representatives and referral agencies in order to facilitate client access to those agencies and services.
About you
  
The successful candidate will be a team player, an excellent communicator, with a commitment to feminist philosophy, social justice, and human rights. You will value ongoing reflection and review of your practice and be proactive in gaining the skills and knowledge to provide appropriate and current evidence-based support to clients.
  
In addition, we are looking for:
  • Tertiary qualification in social science or related field (Minimum Diploma level)
  • Understanding of domestic and Family Violence, its complexities and consequences
  • Knowledge and understanding of the criminal justice response to domestic and Family Violence including AVO applications and criminal prosecutions and related legal matters such as family law, care and protection, migration and victim’s compensation issues.
  • Ability to work with the local community to promote awareness of domestic and Family Violence and WDVCAS services.
  • Excellent communication skills, particularly in negotiation, advocacy and conflict resolution.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage effectively with clients in crisis and provide appropriate, trauma-informed support.
  • Demonstrated ability to network and develop working relationships with the local community and stakeholders.
This role requires a current Working with Children Check, relevant NSW Police Force check, COVID Vaccination Certificate, and current unrestricted Driver’s Licence.

Benefits
  
The position is offered at SCHADS Level 5.1 and has the benefit of a 9-day fortnight (70 hour working fortnight). As Carrie’s Place is a not-for-profit this position also has the benefit of salary sacrificing up to $15,900, increasing the overall salary package. 5 weeks annual leave and personal wellbeing allowance is also on offer.
