Hybrid - 2 days in office 

What you'll do

  • Work within the service provision guidelines and Thriving Families, SDN's Family Centred Framework by maintaining a focus on child wellbeing outcomes and engage in a way that aligns with the Thriving Families behaviours and principles in everything you do
  • Undertake initial face to face meetings with families ensuring informed consent to join the program for the purpose of strengthening their parenting capacity and skills.
  • Ensure your direct work with families is flexible and responsive and is based on need to meet 65% direct work
  • Complete all core Thriving families practice documentation (initial and reviews) in partnership with families
  • Work as a collaborative practitioner within the SDN Village and the Team Around the Family
  • Utilise a coaching approach with families, ensuring not to 'over-function', assessing a family's motivation for change, recognising this is not static and reflect on your practices to promote and enhance family's motivation.
  • Deliver evidence-based parenting programs as part of home visits and/or in a groupwork context
  • Provide feedback during home and community visits to ensure caregivers strengthen their parenting skills
  • Coach caregivers to strengthen their family village and navigate systems to promote their child/rens learning and development
  • Support families to move towards Consolidation on each family project you are working on with them (ensuring family projects are finalised before 6months)

Your team

The Child and Family Programs team is comprised of several funded programs working to ensure that children and their families have access to targeted early intervention. The service provision is delivered by working in partnership to build the skills and capacity of caregivers to understand and promote wellbeing outcomes for their child/ren and reducing the risk of these children entering into the child protection system.

Who you are

  • University qualifications in Social Work or relevant discipline.
  • Demonstrated ability to support children (0-12 years) and families with vulnerabilities such as social isolation, domestic and family violence, mental health, drug and alcohol misuse, child behaviour management concerns and a lack of parenting skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to child focused practice, a well-developed understanding of Child Protection practices, and a sound understanding of relevant legislation.
  • Knowledge and experience in coaching caregivers to strengthen parenting capacities to promote their child/rens wellbeing.
  • Strong networking skills and a knowledge of local community services
  • Demonstrated ability to work with culturally diverse (CALD and Aboriginal) families and communities
  • Excellent relationship building, negotiation and influencing skills with experience working with a range of stakeholders including families, government, and community groups
  • Working with Children Check (NSW) and National Police Check
  • Current drivers' licence, own comprehensively insured car and willingness to travel across Metro and Western Sydney
