Job description

The Role:

Under the direction of the senior leadership team including the Centre Coordinator, Infant Mental Health Consultant, Family Services Practitioner and Pedagogical Leader, the Early Childhood Teacher commits to supporting the effective implementation of the Safe Haven program with a significant emphasis on trauma informed practice. 

We are currently seeking an experienced Bachelor qualified Early Childhood Teacher to:  

  • Deliver educational program in accordance with the VEYLDF.
  • Respond to diverse needs of children and families.
  • Support and guide educators and team across all aspects of service provision consistent with trauma informed and attachment focused practices.
  • Work within a multi-disciplinary team to address the needs and development of children.
  • Maintain a safe and inclusive environment for children and families.

This is a challenging and extremely rewarding position suiting an experienced early years professional who has knowledge of trauma informed practice, attachment theory and established professional networks.

About You:

In this role you will support a team in providing quality education and care in a safe, secure, stimulating and healthy environment and ensure the developmental needs, interests and experiences of each child in care are being met. 

To be successful in this full time, fixed term position until June 2026, we are seeking an individual who has:

  • Knowledge and understanding and a genuine interest in meeting the early developmental needs of young children and families.
  • Desire to be part of a team of early year professionals and contribute to a positive sense of teamwork.
  • An enthusiastic and self-motivated approach to life.
  • A Bachelor's degree (minimum) in Early Childhood (or equivalent as approved by Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority)  and substantial professional experience in Early Years’ services. 
  • Previous experience working with vulnerable communities within a child-centred, trauma informed, family-focused framework.
  • You will be naturally able to motivate, support and guide educators across all aspects of service provision to achieve desired outcomes within the service's parameters.  

Safe Haven:

An important part of the Safe Haven program is ensuring consistency for children that need it the most. Please be aware that this role will be employed under the Early Education Employees Agreement (EEEA). To support the required consistency, all staff employed in the Safe Haven Program will be required to work throughout 48 weeks of the year in order to maintain the requirements of the primary care model.

You will have five hours of contact per day and be responsible for the planning and reporting for three children primarily, working with the family and team to develop programs to support the children with a focus on relational attachment. During the additional hours each day, you will be provided with extensive opportunities for professional development, planning time, team practices, one-on-one guidance, and support from a multidisciplinary leadership team.  This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to be part of a research project which will inform future government funding for Early Childhood services and improve outcomes for families now and into the future.

Additionally, in accordance with EEEA clause 20, the successful candidates will receive an additional payment for the purchase back of six weeks of annual leave. You will be entitled to the four weeks of leave negotiated with the coordinator. This will be paid on top of the salary range of $75,903 to $86,953.
