Job description

We are an emergency and referral veterinary facility open after hours on weeknights and 24hrs on weekends and public holidays. We are excited about our new and fresh team environment. We are growing and ready for a new team member to start ASAP!

As well as catering for a busy walk-in emergency workload, we work closely with internal and external referring vets to provide critical overnight hospitalisation and monitoring.

We are well equipped with digital radiology, ultrasound, endoscope, in-house laboratory, patient monitors and sophisticated emergency and surgical facilities.

We are searching for a confident and enthusiastic nurse who possesses the ability to multitask and work well under pressure in an environment where emotions can run high. Emergency experience is preferable, but a strong general practice background is looked highly upon. Although training will be provided, applicants must possess the ability to work unsupervised as well as demonstrate reasonable proficiency in basic nursing skills.

Essential:

  • Minimum 1-year ECC nursing experience or 2-3 years of general practice experience
  • Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing or equivalent and Registered with VSBWA
  • Demonstrate communication between clients, fellow colleagues and levels of management. This may be face to face, telephone systems or via email
  • Demonstrate the understanding of drug calculations, CRI's and mathematical skills
  • IV canula placement in an aseptic technique 
  • Demonstrate the importance of continuous monitoring for a critical patient and use of monitoring equipment. Please provide an example of patient care data recording, equipment used and case scenario

Desirable:

  • Basic Computer and Office skills EG Microsoft office
  • Experience with EzyVet and SmartFlow (Veterinary Software)
  • Prior Emergency Experience favourable
  • Experience with Idexx Lab, sample collection and microscope slide preparation
  • Ability to work independently and under supervision to follow directions 
  • Understanding of a Triage Process
  • Basic Veterinary Terminology
