Job Summary:

Edge is a fast-growing business unit within SUSE that combines Business Critical Linux and Enterprise Container Management technologies and solutions to address business opportunities within edge compute scenarios.

A SUSE Field Product Manager is a recognized expert in multiple technology domains. They are responsible for helping shape the future direction of the organization and work closely with business unit leadership to establish strategic roadmaps and longer-term strategic plans. They have a strong track record of growing and influencing others and working with all levels of senior leadership.

As a Field Product Manager in the SUSE Edge Business Unit, you will be joining a growing team responsible for leading SUSE's strategic investment to be the open-source edge infrastructure company. SUSE's edge infrastructure platform provides retail, automotive, manufacturing, industrial, telco and other edge market segments with a mission-critical environment for deploying applications on remote edge devices. Your leadership will assist in creating infrastructure that is rich enough to host complex applications but flexible enough to scale from hundreds to millions of instances and be deployed across different vertical edge market segments.

As the SUSE Edge Field Product Manager, you will work across the organization with Product Managers, sales engineers, account executives, engineering project managers, developers, and other product stakeholders to ensure that SUSE's products are addressing the needs of the edge customer. You will help design innovative solutions to complex technical problems using existing SUSE Kubernetes and SUSE Linux products like SUSE Rancher, SLE Micro, K3s/RKE2 and Fleet combined with the integration of other appropriate open-source community projects. You will be a recognized expert, internally and externally, on leading-edge technologies, theories, or techniques. As the SUSE Edge Field Product Manager, you will represent the edge business unit as the technical spokesperson on key projects or programs.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Contribute to the edge technical strategy and edge technology roadmaps for mission critical, large-scale, edge infrastructure deployments. Identify challenges and technical interdependencies and suggest solutions to address them.
  • Track upstream open-source projects and competitive industry products to identify and evaluate relevant developments and features.
  • Collaborate with edge product management to properly position edge products and solutions.
  • Provide a point of escalation for consulting, presales, and product teams facing extremely complex technical challenges.
  • Represent the edge business unit with strategic customer engagements and initiatives. Share edge technology strategy and edge technology roadmaps and utilize customer input to shape future edge technology strategy and direction.
  • Communicate the edge technical strategy and edge technology roadmaps to industry partners and customers; leverages recognized technical and business expertise to influence, guide, and shape business strategy and decision-making at the highest organizational levels.
  • Present at relevant events (e.g., conferences, user groups, meetups, webinars).
  • Communicate regularly via blogs, social media, and presentations.
  • Provide consultation, design input, and feedback into infrastructure product development and design reviews across SUSE business units and across SUSE product lines.
  • Build technology and organizational bridges to key organizational partners.
  • Achieve a wide sphere of influence and provide a measurable impact on the development work of product teams across SUSE.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's, Master's or PHD degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent.
  • 10+ years of experience.
  • Experience with both Linux and containers/micro-services architectures.
  • Familiarity with telematics and sensor data acquisition and aggregation.
  • Experience with infrastructure components like (but not limited to): Kubernetes, Linux, OpenStack, AWS, Azure, Rancher, Ansible, Terraform, Akraino, etc.
  • A strong background in working with open-source community projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead by influence and a track record of successful delivery of large-scale, complex software systems.
  • The ability to synthesize and simplify complex needs such as business capability, operational efficiency, regulatory or security considerations into architecture and system design.
  • Proven ability to interact with technical people at all levels and work closely with product management.
  • Ability to effectively communicate product architectures, design proposals and negotiate options at the most senior organizational levels.
  • Validated ability to quickly grasp and evaluate new ideas and technologies from internal and external sources and match them with appropriate technology and business problems to yield pragmatic innovation.
  • Have the right blend of diplomacy and decisiveness to constantly balance constraints and resources, as well as juggle priorities and tasks.
  • Ability to thrive in a fully remote organization.
