Suitable applicants from vacancy IPS/SS847775 need not apply

Advertised Vacancy Number IPS/SS879288

Appointment Pool

We are seeking to establish a pool for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2024 school year. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2024 school year.

We are looking for enthusiastic, highly motivated, and energetic Education Assistants looking for exciting and rewarding challenges. The Leda Education Support Centre (ESC) community believe all children can learn, that students can develop skills across all curriculum areas and the social, emotional, physical, and educational development of all children is best facilitated when parents, staff and therapists work together as partners in the process. As an Education Assistant – Special

Needs at Leda (ESC), you will be required to embrace our whole school vision of ‘Every Child, Every Opportunity’ for all students and the School Priorities of Literacy, Numeracy, Communication, Positive Behaviour Support, Aboriginal Education and Protective Behaviours.

Suitable applicants will ideally work under general supervision and guidance, performing under limited direction and involve judgment in achieving clearly defined outcomes as determined by the teacher. You will be able to apply techniques, skills and knowledge of relevant principles and practices acquired through previous experience, on the job learning, or relevant qualification.   Suitable applicants will ideally have experience across a range of disabilities in a primary school environment dealing with primary students, combined with a flexible and friendly approach with good interpersonal skills.

Suitable applicants should be genuine innovators that are prepared to be flexible. It is important to have the ability to look beyond behaviour to the deeper reasons for the behaviour. Sound knowledge in Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) and effectively being a communication partner is desired.

The Department of Education set a minimum requirement that early childhood requires an Education Assistant to have or be working towards a relevant Certificate III in Education Assistance. All applicants are highly encouraged to possess the required qualification.

Leda ESC is committed to providing a safe, inclusive learning environment where all students can achieve their potential. Leda ESC caters for students from Kindergarten to Year 6 who have been diagnosed with an Intellectual Disability, Global Development Delay and/or Autism with a demonstrated high educational need.

Leda ESC shares a site with Leda Primary School. Staff across both schools work hard to develop and maintain productive, collaborative relationships that benefit all students. Integration forms an important part of student programs and opportunities are sought through a collaborative teaching approach across both schools.

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):

  • Effective written and oral communication skills, including report writing and the ability to effectively interact with students with Special Needs, and liaise with parents, teachers and community members and assist teachers in understanding students where necessary.
  • Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to contribute to a professional team and provide advice and evaluation in the development of the education program, including special education and therapy programs where they have been implemented.
  • Ability to assist professionals in the implementation and evaluation of education programs, including special education and, if required, occupational and/or physiotherapy programs.
  • Knowledge and understanding of health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents.
  • Effective organisational skills that will assist in the delivery of effective education programs and subsequent feedback and evaluation to teachers or psychologists.
  • Ability to assist with the general health and well being of students.

Applications will be assessed against these work related requirements (selection criteria) of the position. The business needs of the school may also be considered. It is therefore recommended that you consider all information contained in the advertisement and any other related information before applying for the vacancy.

The Department is an equal opportunity employer and encourages people with disability, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and persons from culturally diverse backgrounds to apply.
