Education Teacher - NRL Cowboys House
NRL Cowboys House is removing distance as a barrier to quality secondary education for Indigenous students from some of Australia's most remote and geographically disadvantaged communities.
Our House is a unique, culturally-safe boarding facility for young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men and women attending partner schools in Townsville.
Our students are supported by dedicated teams in education, wellbeing, culture and career transitions in a holistic wraparound model of care.
Managed by the Cowboys Community Foundation, the charity arm of the North Queensland Toyota Cowboys, NRL Cowboys House is a joint initiative between the National Rugby League, North Queensland Cowboys, the Queensland Government and the Australian Government
Our team is dedicated to building a ‘best practice’ model for Indigenous student boarding facilities with a focus on improving historically poor retention and academic success rates for young Indigenous people through:

This position will require an energetic and committed teacher to work within a team of people to achieve our vision. The teacher will be based at NRLCH and work closely with the local schools. They will also be a part of the Education Team who are responsible for evening studies.
This is a full-time role and will be based at the NRL Cowboys House working directly with the NRL Cowboys House Education Manager.
Our ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to develop the quality of teaching and learning at our boarding houses and nurture positive relationships between students, teachers, tutors and other stakeholders.
You will be responsible for:
• Managing our Learning Centres
• Supervising our Study Programs and Exams
• Undertaking Literacy and Numeracy testing of boarders
• Developing strong and effective stakeholder engagement
• Monitoring and reporting of behaviour management
Qualifications and Experience Required
• Bachelor of Education or higher
• A minimum of 3-years’ experience in an educational setting is desirable
• Experience working with Adolescents
• Experience and knowledge working with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people and current issues affecting educational outcomes
• Excellent tutoring skills with the ability to earn trust and credibility
• Ability to work independently as well as within a team
• Able to actively support the values and ethos of NRL Cowboys House and work relationally with all staff and students.
