ATAR Notes is a company dedicated to increasing the accessibility of educational resources through affordable, top quality high school study guides. Our publishing department has produced over 200 titles that are authored by Australia’s top past students and aim to demystify the content of the curriculum by presenting things from a unique student-oriented perspective.
We are seeking a creative and enthusiastic team member to assist in editing, typesetting, and proofreading our publications as we continue to expand our range.
What is this role?
Your role will consist of working on manuscripts from start to finish. This will involve a combination of:
- Writing and adapting manuscripts and engaging in thorough content development to produce new materials before the editorial production begins
- Commissioning other authors and overseeing their manuscripts through editorial production (i.e. editing, typesetting, and proofreading)
You will be trained in our in-house styles and processes with opportunities to specialise in any or all of the following stages of production:
- Liaising with authors and helping to create author briefs for new products
- Conducting developmental edits on manuscripts by researching a wide variety of subjects and curricula
- Content editing and line editing manuscripts to ensure clarity and consistency
- Typesetting manuscripts using our custom software
- Designing graphics and covers in Adobe Illustrator and InDesign
- Proofreading manuscripts and taking in queries in collaboration with our editorial team
- Adapting print materials for our digital platform
- Working with our in-house printing and distribution operational staff
You will also collaborate with the broader ATAR Notes team to work on other educational products and platforms.
What are we looking for?
- A passion for education and an ability to learn quickly are our two most important priorities.
- An enthusiasm to take on new challenges and collaborate with a small, fast-paced team is essential.
- Tertiary qualifications in publishing or a subject area of interest (science, humanities, etc.)
- Strong reading comprehension and written communication skills as well as keen attention to detail are also essential.
- Candidates with a background in education or publishing, especially with mathematical and scientific literacy, will have an advantage.

Our business is based in Melbourne but rural/interstate applications are welcome.
