Hudson has partnered with a high-profile government department seeking an EL 1 Policy/Program Officer with government experience in policy development, stakeholder engagement and program leadership. Duties and Responsibilities
- Support the delivery the programs by performing a range of program and policy implementation, data and reporting, grants and contract management, and stakeholder engagement activities.
- Manage the development and implementation of Branch programs and strategic priorities including enhancing access to services.
- Draft, prepare and disseminate a range of documents including the ability to write succinctly and persuasively for a variety of purposes, including briefings for Ministers and senior executive, and to convey complex ideas with clarity.
- Lead policy work, including understanding the broader operating context and an ability to draw links across issues.
- Communicate effectively and positively with internal and external stakeholders such as Secretariat of National Aboriginal and Islander Child Care (SNAICC), National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA), state and territory governments.
- Communicate effectively with First Nations organisations.
- Work with a high level of autonomy as part of a team, as a leader, as well as under limited guidance.
- Demonstrated conceptual and analytical skills, including sound judgement and the ability to interpret information and apply it to the development of policy.
- Work effectively and collaboratively with colleagues in a team environment.
- Excellent program and/or project management skills including the ability to monitor project delivery progress, manage priorities and see issues through to resolution.
- Excellent organisational and planning skills, with a proven ability to prioritise tasks to meet tight deadlines and manage individual and team resources to deliver outcomes.
- Demonstrated high standard of written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to consult, liaise and negotiate with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders, including First Nations people.
- Capacity to use evidence, including quantitative data where appropriate, to prepare high quality reports and advice.
- Demonstrated ability to contribute positively to team culture, including during periods of change.
- Experience leading a small team is highly desirable.
