The Director will be required to leverage knowledge and experience gained from engaging with Mental and Community Health services, either through their own Lived Experience recovery journey or through supporting others accessing mental health supports. The position will work closely with other areas of the Department to support and co-design the ongoing development of the Open Arms Peer Workforce and will utilise their experience as a current or former ADF member, or a family member of a current or former serving member, to inform best practice.
The role will include the development and implementation of an Open Arms Lived Experience and Peer Workforce Strategy and associated Learning and Development Framework. The role will assist in embedding Lived Experience and Peer work perspectives into Open Arms, including co-designing policy and programs, promoting organisational commitment to services that are values-based and align with trauma-informed and recovery principles.
This position recognises the importance of having Lived Experience leadership roles in mental health service environments. It has been created to align with the National Lived Experience (Peer) Workforce Development Guidelines, developed by the Australian Government’s National Mental Health Commission.
Duties
- Lead a team to review the Open Arms Community and Peer Program model including scope of practice.
- Develop a Lived Experience informed Open Arms Community and Peer Program Workforce Strategy.
- Develop and implement a Capability Framework for the Lived Experience Peer workforce within Open Arms.
- Establish, foster, monitor, measure and continually improve high-value relationships with key internal colleagues to drive strategic outcomes across the Division.
- Working with stakeholders in the Lived Experience sector to work with established organisations to inform best practice within an Open Arms context.
- Drive business improvement and performance and identify opportunities for improved engagement arrangements across the Division.
- Maintain an understanding of the strategic and operational environments within which the Division’s services are delivered to develop section and project reports, briefings and plans.
- Build team capability by working with and being informed by our Lived Experience workforce and Peers working in regain office, this working collaboratively, and supporting career development and meaningful consultation and co-reflection.
- Experience in the mental health service sector, either through a personal mental health recovery journey or through other engagement in accessing or supporting others to access mental health services.
- Experience working in Lived Experience and/or Peer Work environments in a leadership role.
- Be a current or ex-serving ADF member, veteran or veteran’s family member.
- Qualifications in Lived Experience specific training and ongoing professional development.
- Under section 22(8) of the Public Service Act 1999, employees must be Australian citizens to be employed in the Australian Public Service (APS).
