ABOUT THE JOB:-
We are looking for a qualified, self motivated, highly practical and hands on Electrician to work on the electrical maintenance of plant and equipment on our day shift. Experience within the food or pharmaceutical industry will be well regarded.
It is expected that the successful candidate will also have experience in conducting site general electrical preventative maintenance procedures, trouble shooting and electrical repair, wiring, testing of plant and equipment as well as dealing with emergency power outages. Of equal importance is your “can do” attitude and continuous improvement mindset. Reporting to the site Engineering Manager, the successful candidate will be part of a busy team located in the eastern suburbs. There is planned, ad hoc and breakdown electrical maintenance activity. From time to time there is also the electrical wiring & installation and modification of new and existing plant and equipment to required safety, environmental and quality standards.
The Electrician will ensure that all electrical systems on site adhere to the national electrical safety standards and regulations.
On a day-to-day the Electrician will:
- Conduct general electrical systems maintenance to repair and maintain internal plant and machinery.
- Trouble shoot and diagnose electrical issues, repair electrical failures in production to ensure maximum equipment efficiency and effectiveness.
- Ensure that process inefficiencies are minimised by the set up of a preventive, predictive and routine electrical maintenance plan is established and carried out for the site. Prevention of breakdowns by routinely inspecting and replacing old wiring and insulated cables and cleaning circuits.
- Ensure that electrical systems adhere to the national electrical safety standards and regulations.
- Supervising ongoing electrical systems installations and providing technical expertise to the installation team where needed.
- Advising the business when to replace aged electrical equipment to prevent hazards.
- Repairing and replacing wiring as required.
- Writing reports and maintaining records, testing equipment, dealing with emergency power outages and following detailed technical electrical plans.
- Installation of safety and distribution circuits and networks ensuring components are compatible.
- Preparation of conduits and connection of wiring through them
PERSON SPECIFICATION
You will have a valid licence from Energy Safe Victoria or equivalent body and have proven experience in the role of electrician. You will have an excellent ability at critical thinking and problem solving. You will also have strong maths skills to make measurements and calculate electrical current values. You will also have good communication skills so that you can work closely with the maintenance fitter and also liaise with internal stakeholders about electrical matters. You will also be up to date and have a good understanding of electrical safety regulatory requirements. You will be able to work independently or as part of a larger maintenance team.
In addition, the Electrician will have:
- Successful completion of an Electrical Apprenticeship Qualification or relevant vocational training.
- Cert III in Electro – Technology or equivalent
- Hold an Electrician’s Licence (A/ A/E)
- Demonstrated working experience as an electrician in an industrial or commercial environment.
- Demonstrated ability to use electrical and hand tools and interpret electrical drawings and blueprints.
- Thorough knowledge of safety procedures and legal regulations and guidelines.
