Job description

Who We Are
SVA is Australia’s most innovative social impact organisation.

We use our broad outlook, transformational thinking, and trusted voice to lead the charge against inequality in Australia. We were created over 20 years ago to find innovative solutions to entrenched social problems and speed up the rate of positive change.

We help institutions think differently, we help redesign systems by learning about what works in communities, and work hand-in-hand with our passionate partners to take real action and drive positive social change.

The Employment Team
The Employment team is one of SVA’s Social Impact Initiatives. Predominantly philanthropically funded, SVA’s Social Impact Initiatives use a diverse set of capabilities to develop solutions to challenging social problems by shifting practices, policies and funding that impact the lives of people experiencing exclusion, poverty, or disadvantage.

Over the next two years, the team will work with employers, young people, community, and academic partners to mobilise a network of employers committed to increasing quality jobs and career pathways for young people from less privileged backgrounds as part of delivering the Rebuilding the Career Ladder Initiative.

The Position
The Employment Evidence and Practice Adviser identifies and promotes the application of good practice by employers in creating quality jobs and careers for young people at risk of economic exclusion.

They will support the Rebuilding the Career Ladder project by investigating good practice and  ensuring our work reflects the best available evidence. They will generate new information and insights by documenting leading employer practice and effective employer-nonprofit collaborations.

Special requirements
The role may require travel within Australia.

Your benefits

  • Work in an organisation awarded Best CSR Innovation 2023 by the Australia Financial Review (AFR) Boss
  • Be part of the SVA team known for living by our values to put people at the centre and be open and ready to learn
  • We don’t believe that “one size fits all” so we offer flexibility and a hybrid work model that is specific to your team and recognises that work is only one of our priorities.
  • Join an organisation with a focus on your wellbeing and development with an additional week of leave after working with SVA for two continuous years.

Who you are
You are knowledgeable in, and passionate about, the employment, training, and retention of youth, including those from Culturally and Racially Marginalised backgrounds, First Nations backgrounds, young people with disabilities, and young people from low socio-economic backgrounds.

Your experience may span across one or more of the following areas: diversity, equity and inclusion, disability employment, human resources, industrial relations, vocational education and training (VET) and/or work placement support.

While your specific experience may be in one or more these areas, at the heart of it, the goal of your work has been to support young people who have traditionally encountered barriers to gainful employment to find quality jobs and career pathways, ensuring their voices and perspectives are centred in the work.

You bring demonstrated experience researching, sharing and promoting evidence-based practice for a diverse range of employer audiences in a way that makes sense to them. You are a builder and nurturer of strong networks and relationships, recognising the value of building coalitions to create positive change. You are open and ready to learn, recognising the complexity of entrenched social issues and that it is essential to continuously test and refine your approach to achieve the best outcomes.

Candidates with relevant lived experience are strongly encouraged to apply. SVA values diversity and encourages applications from candidates of all backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and people of colour. We value people of all abilities and diversity of culture, faith, gender identity and sexual orientation.

Applicants can request a reasonable adjustment at any stage during the recruitment process by contacting the People & Culture team at **@socialventures.com.au.  There is scope to customise the job role to accommodate people with different abilities.

We welcome unique contributions and perspectives of all people to ensure our workforce is representative of the communities we work with and live in.

If this sounds like you, please submit your CV (max 2 pages) and a statement (max 1 page) addressing the person requirements by midnight AEDT Sunday 17 March 2024.

Please note that we will consider and bring candidates to interview as applications are received and therefore encourage you to apply at your earliest opportunity.
