Job description

Who we are – the work we do

3D HR Legal, as the name suggests, specialises in employment law (with a dash of safety law thrown in). We are based in Perth (south of the river), servicing clients across Australia.

Our mission is to help employers go from people problems to teams that get results.

We use our 3D’s to enable business leaders to create thriving workplace cultures. We help them to:

  1. discover what they need to know (in the complex employment law landscape);
  2. develop their teams and workplace culture to drive performance; and
  3. defend their culture against negative behaviours and legal claims by proactively meeting their legal obligations.

Our focus is practical advice to prevent disputes and drive organisational performance – on a fixed fee basis wherever possible. Specific work includes:

  • development of plain English contracts, policies and procedures;
  • conducting investigations;
  • workplace training for directors and managers;
  • providing general advice (including award interpretation and other general written and telephone advice delivered in a practical manner);
  • researching and formulating opinions on thorny legal questions;
  • 1:1 coaching during difficult situations; and
  • litigation (noting this is only about 25% of our work, generally defending unfair dismissal and adverse action claims).

Our clients are people we want to work with, who match our values and who are interested in creating a great place to work – not doing the minimum. They include local governments, statutory bodies, and small/medium businesses in a variety of industries including legal, allied health, construction, education, mining and more.

Who we are – our team

We are a small but amazing team (self-assessed, but we are) who truly understand the concept of team work – within our team and with our clients.

We don’t have individual time and billable budgets. Instead, we all work together to achieve the goals of our clients, ensuring everyone gets an opportunity to experience different types of work and clients to grow their skills, and we all have time for what’s most important to us.

We like making our work days fun. We have team strategy days four times a year (plus a few other events), we share funny memes on a regular basis, get nerdy about the latest IR changes or cases, and we like to discuss (and eat!) good food.

Having started as a fully remote firm, we now embrace the hybrid lifestyle with team members working a range of different ways to suit their lives. Our office is in the ‘burbs so we can avoid City traffic and have an office with a window that opens so our office plants (and us) can flourish.

Who we’re looking for

We are seeking an experienced Employment Lawyer who has a team spirit and truly wants to build long term relationships with our clients and continue the development of our boutique practice.

You need to be a great lawyer with a proactive and positive attitude, great communication skills (such as the ability to make legal advice easy to understand and engaging for clients), need limited supervision, be able to manage multiple client projects to ensure completion of work within agreed time frames and cost limitations, have great attention to detail (especially with grammar and spelling), the ability to work in a fast paced environment, be open to giving and receiving feedback – and have a great sense of humour. You will be asked to be involved in all aspects of our work, however, where you have a special interest (e.g. a love for delivering interactive workplace training) we will encourage and make that work available as much as possible.

Selection criteria

The successful applicant will:

  1. have at least 5 years’ experience advising employers and have a commitment to a career as an Employment Lawyer in the private sector;
  2. meet the criteria listed above under “Who we’re looking for”;
  3. be driven to provide solid legal advice to resolve matters efficiently and commercially;
  4. be technology savvy and keen to use tech to enhance the delivery of legal services; and
  5. share our values of flexibility, fairness, communication and curiosity.

What we offer

An attractive remuneration package and genuinely flexible working environment.

Permanent employment (full or part time as agreed) subject to a probation period.

An amazing team environment where you get to:

  • grow professionally and personally to reach your full potential (with the full support of the team);
  • work flexibly to balance work and personal needs; and
  • establish positive and long-lasting relationships with clients and others in the industry.

  • Telephone Jo Alilovic on 0450 95 90 95 in strict confidence.
