About Us

Enel Green Power entered the Australian market in 2017 as Enel Green Power Australia (EGPA), with the construction of one of Australia’s largest solar plants, Bungala Solar Farm located in South Australia. Our Australian operations now include three solar plants with a consolidated capacity of around 310 megawatts (MW) and 75MW wind farm and 90MW solar farm under construction.

Today, Enel Green Power Australia is a 50/50 joint venture between energy giants, Enel Group and INPEX. The company is targeting a significant increase to its installed capacity across wind, solar, storage and hybrid projects which is expected to accelerate EGPA’s growth in the local market and continue its commitment to driving Australia’s energy transition and achieving the country’s net zero target.
 


The Role

Reporting to the Head of Energy Market, the Energy Market Risk Manager will be responsible in leading the implementation of a risk and pricing management matrix in a stimulating start up environment. With the support of an Energy Market Analyst, this role will ensure pricing, trading and hedging decision support to traders by mean of proper quantitative modelling capabilities. The modelling shall deliver a static and/or dynamic representation of a wide range of complex financial result deriving from price and volume variation in a trading portfolio of wind and solar renewable generation, BESS and retail portfolio.

Typical deliverable category of analysis shall include, inter alias, pricing, mark to market, profit and/or earning at risk with multifactor Monte Carlo simulations under a determined interval of confidence and with determined level of real case calibrating datasets on quarterly/yearly basis, as well as volume stochastic modeling for generating assets and retail industrial clients.

Described quantitative approach requires, inter alias, strong data management and programming skills.

Key Responsibilities:

Profit/Loss/Risk/Exposure Analysis and monitoring

  • Development of real data analysis and automation tools to support improvements in market analysis and data processing across the Energy Markets team.
  • Provide analytical, programming, modelling and data management support across the team.  This includes the periodic risk monitoring such as PaR, VaR.
  • Provide quantitative decision support services to pursue new contracting and value creation opportunities.

Pricing

  • Provide with market analysis and modelling associated with the sale of electricity and environmental products as well as other transactional opportunities.
  • Analyze generation and customer load profiles and contribute to the development of models for effective pricing of contracts.
  • Create and maintain revenue and financial models for development projects providing inputs to the team on offtake pricing & structuring, contracting strategies, and expected project returns.
  • Create and maintain revenue forecasts for the Energy Markets business.
  • Support the Head of Energy Markets in strategy development and execution.
  • Provide analysis on participant behaviour, market and system events, and dispatch performance.
  • Provide electricity and environmental markets analysis on a historical and forward-looking basis.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of systems that relate to pricing, forecasting, and risk monitoring of the portfolio.
  • Participate in the development of Energy Market assumptions for financial models.

Selection Criteria:

  • Experience in energy, commodities, or relevant markets with an analytical focus.
  • Demonstrated experience in data analysis, particularly relevant to operational, financial and Energy Markets data.
  • Experience with complex and large-scale relational data bases, proficiency in SQL and at least one programming language (e.g. R, Python, Matlab), experience with visualization tools (e.g. PowerBI, Tableau).
  • Experience or demonstrated understanding of the dispatch and pricing processes in the NEM and WEM, including the capability to acquire necessary understanding of technical issues affecting physical operations of the power system.
  • Prior knowledge of Australian Energy Market systems and data is highly desirable.
  • Experience building sophisticated optimisation models or data science tools strongly preferred.
  • Experience building and working with financial models, or keen interest and demonstrated skills to succeed in this area.

Additional preferred experiences:

  • Experience with the electricity, environmental, FCAS and other relevant markets in Australia with an analytical focus.
  • Solid understanding of Energy Market fundamentals and market dynamics as well as the behavior of key participants in the NEM.

Key Skills

  • Tertiary qualifications in a quantitative discipline such as Mathematics, Science, Engineering or Applied Finance
  • Advanced analytical skills with solid grasp of mathematical modelling, statistics, optimisation techniques and data science.
  • Proactive and motivated with a knack for commercial thinking and adding value
  • Strong ability to problem solve in an often uncertain and fast moving external environment.
  • Ability to work with numerous departments in a matrix, global structure
  • Ability to work in a group and autonomously 
  • Demonstrated leadership experience
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills
  • Ability to work in time constrained situations and follow tight deadlines
  • Excellent proficiency in English, both written and verbal
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and organizational skills.
