Overview

We are seeking two part time Engagement Workers to work in our Safe Night Space team.

The Women’s Safe Night Space has been developed by Ruah Community Services and this exciting innovative program requires dynamic and enthusiastic team members to work alongside the established and well-functioning Ruah Centre which has been supporting rough sleepers for over 60 years.

The Ruah Safe Night Space has been developed to respond to the urgent need for a safe and culturally secure night space for women sleeping rough in Perth. This may include chronically street-present women (rough sleepers), women escaping family and domestic violence who would otherwise face being forced onto the streets, and women awaiting placement in transitional or long-term accommodation.

 About the role

This exciting opportunity will allow the successful candidates to work at the Safe Night Space which will provide support and assistance to those sleeping rough for 12 hours of the day. The Safe Night Space hours of operation are between 6:30pm – 7:30am, Monday to Sunday including public holidays on a rotating roster.

  • Part Time shifts: 11:30pm - 7am

The role provides support and assertive support interventions to clients in order to assist them in improving their mental health, general health and social wellbeing, accessing and maintaining housing, improving their quality of life, maximising self-management, independence and participation in the community.

What are we looking for in you?

• Willingness and ability to work within and contribute to the vision, mission, core values and the guiding principles of the organization.

• Completion of a relevant qualification (certificate III/IV), and/or relevant work experience (at least 2 year), or Degree qualification.

• Ability to engage with individuals within different levels of needs and build and maintain a professional relationship.

• A high level of understanding of the Housing First principles and how they relate to people experiencing homelessness in their transition to permanent, long-term housing.

• Demonstrated understanding and experience working with issues facing people who experience chaotic life circumstances such as homelessness, AOD use, family and domestic violence and mental health issues.

• Relevant experience and demonstrated skill in providing support services to people experiencing disadvantage.

• Ability to work independently and contribute to the functioning of the team.

• Ability to model positive behaviours, emotional maturity, coping skills and resilience.

• A high level of written and verbal interpersonal and effective communication skills.

  • A salary of level 3 of the SCHADS award starting at $71,364 per annum pro rata depending on experience.
