First Steps Learning Academy is a privately owned long day care centre catering for children 0-5 years. We strive to provide the highest quality care and education for our children.
As our Bookkeeper / Payroll Officer, you will be responsible for the organisation’s general bookkeeping and monitoring of account transactions.
You will be responsible for accounts payable and receivable duties across the business creating and maintaining accurate, extensive financial records, processing of payments and invoices, and managing accounts/debts for our families. You will support our end to end payroll functions for our 12 services and head office team.
Your duties include:
- Process supplier payments and customer invoicing.
- Download of Bank statements, and process bank transactions in Xero in timely manner.
- Support the month end process, including drafting of journal entries and updating GL reconciliations as required.
- Support in managing customer accounts, accounts payable and accounts receivable including collection of aged debtors.
- Liaising with debt collection agency
- Assist in the preparation of accurate and reliable financial reports for Operations Manager and Approved Provider
- Adherence to all financial deadlines involving ATO, PAYG and Super
- Preparing statutory returns including Business Activity Statements (BAS)
- Assist Operations Manager with preparation of yearly budgets
- Liasing with Group Accountant to assist with BAS and end of year financial statement and tax returns.
- Ensure compliance with all statutory payroll, financial, taxation and legal requirements.
- Ad Hoc Reporting and Analysis
- Managing internal staff and external creditors relations, fostering strong relationships with stakeholders throughout the business
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Previous experience in the Accounts Payable function along with volume Payroll processing.
- Knowledge in Xero software essential.
- Proven experience interpreting and applying employment related agreements and awards, policies, and procedures, to payroll related matters including salary, leave entitlements and conditions.
- Experience with Deputy (Rostering system), Xero Payroll, Xplor/OWNA (Child Care Subsidy software) will be highly regarded but not essential.
- Understanding of Child Care Subsidy will be highly regarded but not essential
- Developed Microsoft Office Skills
- You will be able to work independently and as part of our team. You will be highly organised with a strong attention to detail and have excellent communication skills.
- A high level of attention to detail
- An excellent phone manner, and the ability to manage account debts, in a professional and friendly manner.
- Intermediate Excel Skills.
