The Role
Are you an Engineering or Technical professional looking to apply your expertise, management and leadership skills to manage a significant and complex Defence test and evaluation site?
As an EL 2 Engineering and Technical Executive, you will be given the unique opportunity to lead the Prototype and Test Services (PTS) Directorate within Land Engineering Agency (LEA), Land Systems Division (LSD), Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group (CASG). The Director PTS is the custodian of a strategic Defence site critical to the delivery of Australian Defence Force capability.
You will be accountable for exercising leadership of large, diverse and integrated teams (across multiple locations), influencing external stakeholders to deliver prototype, test and evaluation capabilities in an accredited test environment ensuring a strong safety culture. In addition, the role is accountable for leading high-level facilities management, budgeting and finance, workforce management and service delivery in an agile environment.
On occasion, the incumbent of the position will be required to travel to Victoria Barracks Melbourne.
The additional payment is a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP) which enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the rate of salary otherwise payable under the Enterprise Agreement (EA) to some or all of the jobs within a critical occupation(s) or discipline within a workplace. Applicants engaged into a BDCP position must consider the following. BDCPs provide remuneration in addition to the Defence Enterprise Agreement (EA).
This arrangement is subject to meeting eligibility criteria and is subject to annual review. Should your performance fall beyond requirements or the eligibility criteria not be met, your eligibility for the BDCP may be reviewed and ceased. It may also be ceased should you change positions or the requirement for the BDCP is no longer necessary, as determined by Defence. Should the BDCP be ceased you will be advised and your BDCP additional payment will cease.

The Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group (CASG) is an integral part of the Department of Defence. This group procures and maintains military equipment and supplies in the quantities and to the service levels that are required by Defence and approved by Government.

Our Ideal Candidate
The ideal person for this role will be an experienced engineering or technical professional who has broad knowledge and experience leading the delivery of capability in a complex and accredited test environment. The role requires significant leadership in order to manage Defence prototype, test and evaluation sites and a specialised multidisciplinary workforce.
The ideal candidate will:
Be either an engineering professional or technical specialist and meet the mandatory qualifications.
- Have demonstrated strong leadership and communication skills.
- Have demonstrated experience managing complex stakeholder groups.
- Have demonstrated experience managing large, diverse, multidisciplinary and integrated workforce teams across multiple sites.
- Have demonstrated experience in financial/contract management, facilities management, Work Health and Safety and asset management.
- Have experience managing Defence sites with a strong safety culture to deliver in an accredited test environment.
- Have knowledge of the Defence capability lifecycle and experience working within a Technical Regulatory Framework (or similar).
