About the Role

Reporting to the Manager - Drinking Water Strategy & Policy, Service Futures, this is a pivotal role within the Service Strategy team. As an Engineer/Scientist Drinking Water Quality Planning, you will be responsible for ensuring that through collaborative risk-based planning, Melbourne Water continues to deliver on its commitment to provide safe, reliable and affordable Drinking Water and drive evidence-based risk management programs and adaptive service plans for improved Drinking Water Quality outcomes.

This will be achieved through:

  • Supporting the continuous improvement of Melbourne Water’s risk planning in relation to Drinking Water Quality by identifying, promoting and adopting industry best practice.
  • Project management of the development, critical review of, and implementation of relevant Drinking Water Quality business cases, planning investigations, plans and strategies that contribute to Melbourne Water achieving its statutory obligations and strategic vision.
  • Guiding and supporting an integrated, evidence-based and customer-focused approach to decision making and planning priorities for Drinking Water Quality outcomes in the broader context of the whole water cycle.

Please note that this is a part-time role and the successful candidate will be expected to work 4 days a week.

About you
  • Tertiary degree in relevant discipline of science or engineering, and preferably postgraduate degree in science or engineering
  • Foundational technical understanding in at least one of the areas of human health and ecological risk assessment; source water protection for Drinking Water and waterway quality management for ecological and recreational outcomes; water treatment technologies; emerging contaminants; microbiology; analytical techniques.
  • Detailed understanding of the underlying principles of Drinking Water Quality risk management and proficiency in risk-based planning.
  • Demonstrated experience with preventive risk management framework and with management systems such as ISO 9001/HACCP/ISO 22000.
  • Well-developed knowledge of technical, public health, environmental, health & safety and regulatory issues and best practice associated with water industry activities.
  • Delivery and achievement focus with strong project management and organisational skills.
