DEPARTMENT

The Endocrinology and Diabetes department at Alfred Health are dedicated to providing the highest standard of evidence-based care for individuals living with diabetes. At the heart of our service is a multidisciplinary team of highly skilled healthcare professionals who work collaboratively to provide personalised care addressing the unique needs and goals of each individual. The department is also actively involved in research

POSITION

This is a newly created Diabetes Enrolled Nurse (EN) position as a key member of the Type 1 Diabtes Service at Alfred Health. The goal of this service is to prevent re-hospitalisations in T1D patients and better manage their needs, with a focus on high quality multidisciplinary care that encompasses both patients physical and mental health. The EN Level 3 (Advanced EN) is a clinical role that includes advanced skills and/or additional responsibilities under the supervision and delegation of a Registered Nurse (RN), Nurse Practitioner (NP) or area manager and will work as a member of the service in the Type 1 Diabetes Clinic and in coordinating patient care.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Registered with Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia via AHPRA
  • An Enrolled Nurse who successfully meets the criteria for EN Level 3Advanced EN c (also see Appendix): To meet the advancement criteria, an EN is to meet both b)i and b)ii as follows before making an application: The eligibility criteria are: Can provide evidence of achievement of four out of the ten Advanced EN3 Competency Standards (see competency standards page 6-7) AND EITHER Complete a minimum of four years post registration experience as an EN OR Completed a post registration qualification (of at least 6 months or 200 hours duration), a component of which is relevant to the role
  • Current and satisfactory Police Check
  • Current and satisfactory Working With Children Check Expereince working in acute hospital setting
  • Experience in treating patients with diabetes, particularlty Type 1 Proven people and communication skills including relationship building, cooperation, conflict resolution, influencing others and facilitating open discussions Patient-centred focus, adaptability, respecting diversity, innovative thinking, application of evidence into practice, and self-management
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaborating with others to deliver outcomes
  • Present oneself in a professional and respectful manner
  • Ability to communicate accurately and effectively in both written and verbal forms
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
